TV alternative for supporting friends/family reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- xardoniak · 2023-12-18 01:22 Hi all, I've gotten into the habit of installing Teamviewer on friends and families' machines so I can provide remote support when asked, but I've seen a lot of posts about users being flagged as commercial and having their TV accounts blocked. I'm starting to look into Rustdesk but there have been a lot of concerns around it editing config files and where the servers are located... My requirements are * easy to guide someone through downloading and installing (I'm happy to host a domain redirect to the exe) * Easy to understand and use (eg "open program, what is your ID and password?") * Support for Windows * Support for Android Would likes * Remember previous connections * Support for iOS * Any persistent data stored on my server * Proxy connection via Cloudflare tunnel instead of port forwards * Docker containers I do not need this for accessing any of my internal devices - I have a VPN and Kasm configured for this ---------------------------------------------------------------------- haz3lnut · 2023-12-18 01:54 Rustdesk... https://rustdesk.com ---------------------------------------------------------------------- GrilledChickenWings · 2023-12-18 01:55 You are correct, I used to support baisc help for my family remotely on just one laptop.. ansld im one of the user Team Viewer just ended blocking as commercial usage.. wonder what thier logic is. SO I started exploring.. I tired any desk but was not good.. finally I setup Rustdesk on my cloud VM and it works like a breeze.. What issues you are facing setting up Rustdesk... ? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ratudio · 2023-12-18 01:58 Tailscale? Free account allows up to 10 devices but sharing with only one login. Or setup nextcloud app via docker ---------------------------------------------------------------------- xardoniak · 2023-12-18 02:08 No issues setting up Rustdesk, I'm referencing this: [Community consensus on Rustdesk with all the controversy in such a short time? : r/selfhosted (reddit.com)](https://www.reddit.com/r/selfhosted/comment s/14kjvkg/community_consensus_on_rustdesk_with_all_the/) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- LordPickels · 2023-12-18 02:56 Not a big deal, but I believe when I last looked, the Tailscale free tier allowed up to 3 users and 100 devices ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Trash-Alt-Account · 2023-12-18 03:22 what's wrong with this sub lmao. the top comment is rustdesk which you said you had concerns abt and the only other comment that's offering a solution is tailscale when you said at the bottom of your post that you don't need a VPN ---------------------------------------------------------------------- xardoniak · 2023-12-18 03:25 This is so common on Reddit now, it's frustrating. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Trash-Alt-Account · 2023-12-18 03:25 yea it sucks, also I edited my comment but I'm not sure if you saw it since I edited right when you replied. hopefully something on there is helpful ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DavethegraveHunter · 2023-12-18 03:38 MeshCentral is what you’re after. That said, you can view-only with Android due to limitations in the Android system. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- xardoniak · 2023-12-18 04:48 Thanks for an alternative solution, I'll do some research into this one. Is this the tool that can do Intel AMT as well? I'm meaning to look into that too ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DavethegraveHunter · 2023-12-18 04:57 I don’t know what Intel AMT is. Sorry. Can’t answer that one. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- xardoniak · 2023-12-18 04:59 Thanks for an alternative solution, I'll do some research into this one. In answer to some of your other points: * client tool is just a simple downoad-and-click-click-click thing * Windows and Android agents are supported (but android conns are read-only) * connections to server work just fine via Cloudflare (use it that way myself) * server remember connections * there is an easy to use 'assistant' tool (though I tend to have folk install permanent agents instead) * all data is server-side (excpet connection details needed by the clients) * there's a docker container * no idea about ios - I know you could perform remote control from ios as that is just browser-based but no idea about ios being able to be controlled. Any Q's let me know. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- angelflames1337 · 2023-12-18 09:22 Any desk unattended for pc.
