(Waze brought up no hits but did bring up Wyze so I'm guessing that was a typo). The two main ways go2rtc would access the camera feed is by communicating with it over the RTSP or ONVIF protocols. Wyze cameras don't look like they support [ONVIF](https://forums.wyze.com/t/onvif- protocol/13798) or [RTSP](https://support.wyze.com/hc/en- us/articles/360051619871-Does-Wyze-Cam-v3-support-RTSP-) (anymore). But this service [docker-wyze-bridge](https://github.com/mrlt8/docker- wyze-bridge) looks like it acts like a middleman and will make the feeds accessible over RTSP. But that said, I haven't heard of that repo before 5 minutes ago and have only skimmed the readme. I know nothing about how it works, or the potential privacy implications. Have you ever owned a pet, even as a young person? It'll be similar, except slower, longer, more enjoyable. In my experience of being a father for my babies, I was there to support the mother. The babies wanted milk, which I didn't have. I could change diapers and hold and rock the baby, but none of that required any self-hosted app. I think you will spend too much time setting up an app for something so basic - taking care of your child. If you're curious about my suggestions... * keep a daily journal about your baby, the mother, and you and what happened today. Keeping it simple is probably fine - "today baby Jeremiah spit up his milk after a car ride. Mother and I just love the way the sunshine lights up his face". These memories are fresh when they happen, but they'll be fleeting as time goes on, especially once they're crawling and walking. * take pictures, videos, audio recordings. No doubt you were already considering this, but you don't need to setup a system to manage all that stuff now; you've got the memories captured and can categorize and catalog all that later - after you and the mother have caught up on your sleep. * **keep things simple** ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Trainzack · 2023-12-18 02:48 Why not pull metadata? I went insane and dove into Home Assistant, perhaps as some misplaced nesting instinct. I would recommend against this, but we did eventually track our kid's nap length just by looking at when we turned his light on and off. You might want a baby registry. [Christmas Community](https://github.com/Wingysam/Christmas-Community) could work for that. Especially not tracking your newborn with something like "baby buddy" tbh that sounds really horrible as it will cause unnecessary pressure on the parents and the baby ("oh, yesterday he was sleeping at 2pm, today at 3pm, do you think he is sick?"). Do a shared calendar for the babies appointments with your partner, find a good way to digitally archive the babies beaurocratic paperwork (imagine, the two first letters our son got were from the tax office and health insurance) My advice is to find a good way to organize and share the hundreds of videos and thousands of fotos you will certainly take and a way to properly share it with Grandma and Grandpa, I find Photoprism great for this. Make sure the photo collections is really properly backed up, I guess there is nothing more painful then losing the baby fotos of your child. I think it's a wonderful idea to write a diary about your baby, with the idea to give it to them when they are grown up, I have been recently fiddling with anytype which would be a great tool for this purpose. Anyway, most important in terms of selfhosting during these times: make sure everything runs as smoothly as possible and needs as little admin work as possible, since you will have little time for these kinds of things. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jdjwright · 2023-12-18 07:14 Dad of a six month old here, you will *need* an app like that. I remember laughing at a friend showing me how he was tracking sleep and food and thinking it was ridiculously OTT (and I’m a massive data hoarder). Then my little one was born and the sleep deprivation kicked in. You think you’d remember when she ate or slept, but you just don’t. You need to track it so that you can then do the most horrifying part of parenting - nap maths. Good luck! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- diliff · 2023-12-18 07:27 I like stats and data as much as the next self-hosting nerd but I totally agree with you. I managed to raise two kids without needing an app to tell me if they were due for a nap, feed or burp... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ProfessionalDot2955 · 2023-12-18 07:35 And lots more storage!! I take an insane amount of photos/videos now ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PrivateCaboose · 2023-12-18 07:51 First time father with a 9 month old here, I can’t speak for this exact service but it looks quite similar to Huckleberry, which I’ve been using since my daughter was born in March. I wish I knew there was a self hosted option! In any case, especially during the first month or two as you’re still getting into the swing of the three hour feeding cycle and acclimating to the sleep deprivation, having an easy place to record diaper changes and feeding times will be a godsend. If you’re planning to breastfeed tracking diapers is really your only way to regularly make sure baby is eating enough, and it’s common for doctors to ask how many poopy diapers vs pee diapers you’re seeing. As they get older, having a place to track medicine is also nice. My daughter was teething like crazy while also fighting off an ear infection so none of us were sleeping but we needed to track her meds. Tracking sleep is another good use case, especially as you start trying your figure out how to get them to sleep through the nights. Tracking sleep times can help you figure out what is and isn’t working as far as nap schedules, sleep training, bed time routines, etc. TL;DR: Do you NEED this? No. Will it make your life immeasurably better if you can make using it a habit? YES. But that’s the hitch. You and the wife both have to buy in and use it regularly for the data to be meaningful. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PrivateCaboose · 2023-12-18 08:02 I mean…I get where you’re coming from, but you could say the same of baby monitors, swings, rocking bassinets, etc. I don’t think it’s a question of whether they’re needed or not, but if it can improve quality of life for you and/or for baby…why not? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PrivateCaboose · 2023-12-18 08:07 Probably not very helpful at that age, but during the newborn phase tracking diapers and feed times can be pretty important, especially when you’ve only slept thirty minutes in the last 48 hours and you’re starting to question reality. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PrivateCaboose · 2023-12-18 08:14 Dad of a nine month old, and same. That three hour feeding cycle is a killer, and when you’re barely catching 45 minute windows to sleep in between feeds you start feeling like you’re losing your mind. I wish I knew this existed back in March, I’d been using Huckleberry but they lock all of the shortcuts behind a pay wall so it was hard getting my wife to buy in on using it consistently. This could have been much easier. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jdjwright · 2023-12-18 08:35 Are we the same person? I am also a Huckleberry hostage.
