My first raspberry pi reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Artistic-Bass-94 · 2023-12-17 12:17 Got my first raspberry pi 8g today! Want some recommendations on cool apps that is easy to use & install. (i don’t want to mess around with high configured apps just yet) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- itzeric02 · 2023-12-17 12:39 If you don't want to configure much and try some apps: Look into docker. You could deploy portainer to manage your docker containers (That's the first thing I selfhosted on a pi). Then try to install pihole. Get used to SSH and configure it with your private keys. There are some guides on how to secure your pi. After that you can look here https://github.com/awesome-selfhosted/awesome-selfhosted and select some services that you would like to have. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Sir_Smokey · 2023-12-17 15:07 + on docker it is a lot of fun. Try out iSponsorBlockTV docker container it's sweet. You can setup homer dashboard as well to view quick links to items. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- root_switch · 2023-12-17 16:57 Congrats on your pi! “Cool apps” are going to be the apps that are most useful to you! What needs do you have? Also one of the cooler things about a pi is interacting with the GPIO pins, not just using it as a computer/server. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Danyar15 · 2023-12-17 19:45 Try casaos, you Can install docker containers and manage them easily from the casaos ecosystem. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- budius333 · 2023-12-17 20:26 Seriously... Docker is the answer! One of my PIs only has docker installed and nothing else. The first image I ran is Portainer and then I managed ALL the other applications it runs in the Portainer web UI. 12 stacks running and counting... No issues! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Artistic-Bass-94 · 2023-12-17 22:45 I wanted to set up a nextcloud server to host some files and possibly jellyfin ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AngelosPanos · 2023-12-18 00:00 i just installed dietpi and install homer / piehole / torrent downloader / vnc and home assistant ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Artistic-Bass-94 · 2023-12-18 00:04 If I installed docker, can I still install apps that do not use docker environment? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- neuleo05 · 2023-12-18 13:20 yes
