Which VPN for *arr services? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- xMidoxx22 · 2023-12-17 11:06 Hi, another question from my side: which vpn are you all using for \*arr services/it´s downloads? I´m looking for a solution for only this single purpose - as main remote connection vpn I´m using tailscale. Thanks! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Malossi167 · 2023-12-17 11:45 AirVPN and Proton are the only remaining trustworthy providers that offer port forwarding. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Private_Plan · 2023-12-17 12:04 Don't use VPN for *arr services, it'll result in captchas in most websites which will break auto downloading. Use the VPN only in your torrent client. Proton is really good ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MarahSalamanca · 2023-12-17 13:25 Only exception being people with UK ISPs which will probably need torrent for prowlarr too ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Phynness · 2023-12-17 13:54 Is TorGuard not trustworthy? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DanieloAvicado · 2023-12-17 17:07 MulladVPN, bought with giftcards. No personal data at all required ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Phynness · 2023-12-17 18:59 No, mullvad dropped support for port forwarding back in like July. Great product. Not great for torrenting. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dcgog · 2023-12-17 20:45 I use a BitTorrent container running through Mullvad with a kill switch and it works great ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Phynness · 2023-12-17 20:50 Cool story. Kill switches are garbage and mullvad doesn't support port forwarding. 👍 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dcgog · 2023-12-17 21:02 But OP’s question is what vpn works for arrs. You’re saying Mullvad doesn’t, I’m saying it works just fine. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Phynness · 2023-12-17 21:14 >But OP’s question is what vpn works for arrs. You’re saying Mullvad doesn’t, I’m saying it works just fine. Sure, if by, "just fine" you mean, "objectively worse than other options." ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dcgog · 2023-12-17 21:34 Why would I need port forwarding for torrenting? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Phynness · 2023-12-17 21:37 Because you can only connect to peers if at least one of you is connectable. If you're not, then you're relying on them being. If all of the torrents you download have hundreds of seeders, you probably won't notice. When you *do* notice it is when you try to download something that only has a couple seeders, and you can't connect to them because you're not connectable and neither are they. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tcfjr · 2023-12-18 04:13 This is what I do. My QBT docker container includes PIA as the network interface, and it works well for me.
