Quantum Fiber 360 and Self-Hosting reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- bapichulo · 2023-12-17 02:03 Has anyone been able to self host with quantum fiber's 360 routers? I just switched from using my own router with a static IP to theirs and it looks like I am not able to make a static IP with their router. I've read some things about needed to pay for it for $15 a month and I'm definitely not doing that. Has anyone had success getting their server back up and running properly? I want AdguardHome back because I DESPISE ads. I haven't been able to get it back up and running. I fear that I won't be able to self-host anything with quantum fiber unless I pay for their static IP or go back to using my old router (which I might do) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- No_Dragonfruit_5882 · 2023-12-17 02:10 1. Kinda the wrong sub. Homenetworking etc would be better. 2. Is your old Router fiber aswell or some other tech? 3. And yeah seems like you got 2 Options => Pay for a static IP. Use your own Router. Tho if its the same isp they always have the right to switch you to dyn ip or even gc nat. I dont know about prices in the US, but here in Germany i pay 100 euros for 250/40 with a static ip, so i would imagine 15 Euro for a static ip is not too bad. If you cant get a static ip you can always use => DYNDNS or VPN ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mikesellt · 2023-12-17 02:13 I don't use their router, but I do self-host. I know that's not quite what you're asking, but I am familiar with their router. Do you mean you don't have a static public IP? How would using your old router give you a static IP? Can we get more info about your network? I also use AdguardHome with no problems. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- omfgitsasalmon · 2023-12-17 03:04 Do you mean you are unable to set your PUBLIC ip to static, or your PRIVATE ip to static? If it's the former, then you're at the mercy of your ISP. Theoretically, they are not obligated to even provide you with a static ip. Because you are not supposed to host any service at your residence, be it private or public as per your contract. You are entitled to internet access, not entitled to run a service. Remember that you're on RESIDENTIAL internet plan, not BUSINESS internet plan. Even Business internet plan, you are still expected to pay more for a static IP. What you can do, however, is like what /u/No_Dragonfruit_5882 suggested, just use DYNDNS, VPN, or what I would prefer, Cloudflare Tunnel. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- No_Dragonfruit_5882 · 2023-12-17 03:30 Ohhh thanks buddy. Didnt even think about it beeing the private ip. That would be a simple fix since you can give your Clients static ips outside the DHCP range from the router. Thanks again for mentioning me, great advice from you aswell! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- bapichulo · 2023-12-17 07:47 Yes yes, I was referring to the private static IP address specific to my router that I was unable to set up. My last router made it really simple to set up, but the new ones, not so much ---------------------------------------------------------------------- omfgitsasalmon · 2023-12-17 07:48 Ah, in that case you can set private IP on your server side. Just Google your OS and static ip ---------------------------------------------------------------------- bapichulo · 2023-12-17 07:52 There’s so much to learn still. I’m pretty new at all this. Thanks for the advice! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- bapichulo · 2023-12-17 07:55 I meant to specify private IP. I was able to set my IP address on my routers login page before. With quantum fibers routers, it’s a bit more difficult. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mikesellt · 2023-12-17 08:38 So do you mean that the Quantum router's private IP keeps changing? The IP of the Quantum router will just be the default gateway of the LAN IP network. I can't remember what it is by default, but it'll be something like 192.168.1.1. So unless you have something weird going on with your network (duplicate IP issue, multiple routers, etc...) you should be able to access the Quantum router with the same IP every time. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- KingAroan · 2023-12-17 09:47 Depending on what you do for work you might be able to talk then into needing the static IP for security reasons. I'm a security consultant and require a static IP to be whitelisted into networks when working remote. If I lost connection for to the IP changing it could cause a ton of damage. I had to provide proof of my profession to show I wasn't lying and trying to scam them out of the cost per month but due to the reason they comped my cost per month. Now I'm not using there fiber, I'm in the UK on Vodafone, so your results may vary.
