Anonaddy vs Simplelogin reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CranberryLegal6919 · 2023-12-17 01:54 Well, i am transitioning from my 20 years old email because is full of spam and i want to improve my privacy with a mail for registrations. So I am considering the use of email aliases only to receive emails with my own domain. At first I though about a Catch-all but the lack of email validation is a real security hazard. So I am implementing anonaddy or simplelogin. So far they seem to be the same. My main concern is that simplelogin seems hard to be implemented on docker. Has anybody have been in the same situation? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CranberryLegal6919 · 2023-12-17 01:56 Just to complement. I have not considered a full email alternative because that seems to be a real headache. At the moment I only intend to receive mails, and be able to verify the sender because the cloudflare catchall does not. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kzs · 2023-12-17 04:17 I can recommend either of them I have had both running side by side for a couple of months (on different domains, of course), both in docker. Both can be used well in docker, however it takes a little effort to get them working for both. Right now I only have anonaddy running on a vps: I have kinda preferred it's interface and options better - even though I can't really explain why. (I would probably still have both be running, I stopped simplelogin only because my VPS I used it on, has been terminated. I still think about setting it up again) Even though anonaddy is preferred, I had more cases of emails getting lost with no notification, or similar issues. All of these cases were related to settings I've changed, but for sure any change has to be closely monitored. Simplelogin ran more stable - although maybe I played with config less... With simple login, you have to go to github and find the required changes to be made in one of the issues (plain docker, not docker compose). There's a community docker-compose, however small changes, corrections have to be made in it as well. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PaddyStar · 2023-12-17 10:56 Anonaddy is easier to deploy and it can protect aliases via inbox rule. For example you can create an alias where only Amazon can send mail.. if someone mail to amazon@domain it will be blocked. That’s a great feature. Best is never give someone your real mail, only aliases (you can also create in anonaddy aliases which looks like real primary addresses) like mail@domain.com -> forward to your real inbox ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ajtatum · 2023-12-17 13:35 I know this isn't a self hosted solution, however, I subscribed to Fastmail as an alternative to Gmail, and there are two features which really helps with this. First, they have masked email addresses which are randomly generated and can be integrated with Bitwarden and 1password. The second is my favorite and it allows you to create aliases without any work besides making some DNS changes for your domain (you don't have to use their nameservers). Basically let's say I have me@mydomain.com as my email address. Well, when your signing up for something, you can just do something like newsletter@me.mydomain.com. From there you can setup rules for that particular email address or a rule for anything that's sent to "@me.mydomain.com". Anyways, just something to think about ---------------------------------------------------------------------- sudonem · 2023-12-18 12:50 I’ll second this. Fastmail has been great for me. I’m all about self hosting but email is one thing I want actively managed (if only because it’s so easy for small email servers to get blacklisted) and have someone actively working on anti-spam/phishing systems. The masked email features with 1Password integration is super nice and I make use of it a lot more than I guessed I might. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CranberryLegal6919 · 2023-12-19 05:58 I decided to give anonaddy a try! But having some troubles enabling TLS for SMTP in Postfix. Hope I can work it out. BTW: [https://www.reddit.com/r/addy\_io/comments/16fsdjm/selfhosted\_t roubles/](https://www.reddit.com/r/addy_io/comments/16fsdjm/selfhosted _troubles/) your post helped me solve the http2 on issue!
