Nextcloud: Unexpected web installer found when searching local ip reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- supernova-4420 · 2023-12-14 21:59 Unexpected behaviour: When searching my local ip, a nextcloud install wizard is displayed. https://preview.redd.it/d2ems12q1c6c1.png?width=450&format=png&auto=we bp&s=740cac857bf0b30f95f912e5d394b9a428d9e726 I installed nextcloud months ago using the following compose file: \--- version: "2" services: nextcloud: image: linuxserver/nextcloud:latest container\_name: nextcloud environment: \- PUID=1000 \- PGID=1000 \- TZ=europe/london volumes: \- /home/eg/portainer/Config/Nextcloud/Config:/config \- /home/eg/portainer/Config/Nextcloud/Data:/data ports: \- 8443:443 restart: unless-stopped depends\_on: \- nextcloud\_db nextcloud\_db: image: linuxserver/mariadb:latest container\_name: nextcloud\_db environment: \- PUID=1000 \- PGID=1000 \- MYSQL\_ROOT\_PASSWORD=password \- TZ=europe/london \- MYSQL\_DATABASE=nextcloud\_db \- MYSQL\_USER=nextcloud \- MYSQL\_PASSWORD=password volumes: \- /home/eg/portainer/Config/Nextcloud/DB:/config ports: \- 3306:3306 I discovered this entirely on accident when I entered my devices local IP into chrome. I have tried numerous attempts at debugging: 1. This page still shows even after shutting down my nextcloud container 2. using the command $ sudo dpkg-query -f '${binary:Package}\\n' -W > completePackage.txt generates a text document with all 600 packages installed on my ubuntu server, none of which contain a package called nextcloud or anything similar 3. using the command $ netstat -ano | grep 80 givecs the following output: 4. https://preview.redd.it/dgqkxwxq1c6c1.jpg?width=920&format=pjpg&auto=w ebp&s=b747848d51a1ce61d12b08e143d7de47779ab308 I don't fully understand the output but there is nothing even using HTTP or HTTPS Expected behaviour: When no containers running, my local IP should be unresolvable, but even after a reboot as well as my nextcloud stack is stopped this install page still shows. I have also tried clearing browser cache, cookies, and searching from another device. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- adamshand · 2023-12-14 22:34 > This page still shows even after shutting down my nextcloud container Then either it's not your nextcloud container, or you aren't shutting down what you think you are. Turn off your server and make sure it goes away. If it doesn't then something else is going on. If it does then it's *something* on your server. Turn services off one by one until you figure out what's going on. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-12-14 22:56 /r/Nextcloud is a large active sub. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- supernova-4420 · 2023-12-14 23:22 Sorry I wasn’t clear. I entered my servers local ip (192.168.1.114 with no specified port) into my browser (as if it were a website). I use portainer to manage my containers, and no containers are using port 80 so I don’t understand how this web installer exists. Stopping my nextcloud container doesn’t affect the web installer. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-12-14 23:37 Dont rely on Portainer. As i already said, check what containers are running with `docker ps` or even `docker ps -a`. And it could also be port 443 and your browser autoredirects to that. So dont only look for things on port 80. You also should make sure where that URL actually leads to. Doing a `curl -v http://localhost` would give you hints. Once again, subs like /r/LinuxQuestions and /r/HomeNetworking exist and are more fitting for support like this. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- supernova-4420 · 2023-12-15 14:24 Thank you for your help, I have started a thread in the nextcloud sub as well. Stopping the docker service does not stop this webpage from showing, so I believe it is not a unknown container or a fault. Using curl -v http://localhost shows that there is an apache server running. I am not familiar with the curl command but in the output I can see nextcloud related footers so I believe this is the culprit. I think this may be the remnants of a failed nextcloud install. This was my first nextcloud server and I remember having trouble settings this up so I find this likely. however I was surprised that there was no nextcloud related packages on my system. sudo systemctl status apache shows no apache service running, how should I investigate this further? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- RedditSlayer2020 · 2023-12-15 16:41 netstat -plaunt | grep 80 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-12-15 17:24 Try a `netstat -tulpen` to see all processes that are listening on network ports, see which one is listening on 80 and/or 443, then investigate further. Atleast with curl you have now confirmed that it is indeed a service running on your local host, not on another machine. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- supernova-4420 · 2023-12-16 11:38 Rookie mistake by me - I checked all my apt packages and didn't find anything nextcloud related, I didn't check snap; there was an incomplete nextcloud snap install that was the culprit. Thank you for all your help.
