[OC] dockcheck - selective auto-update fleets of docker images, with extras. (now v3) reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Mag37 · 2023-12-14 20:05 Just released v0.3.0, nothing major but some tweaks and features. A shell script to handle updating of your whole fleet of containers. Checks for updates (without the need of pulling images to compare). With extra options: ``` -y Automatic updates, without interaction. -e X Exclude containers, separated by comma. -d N Only update to new images that are N+ days old. Lists too recent with +prefix. 2xSlower. -n No updates, only checking availability. -p Auto-Prune dangling images after update. -r Allow updating images for docker run, wont update the container. -s Include stopped containers in the check. (Logic: docker ps -a). ``` Find it here: https://github.com/mag37/dockcheck ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-12-14 20:38 Yay! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Overbyrn · 2023-12-14 21:24 Nice. I recently forked your repo and added support for docker ‘context’. I run three separate docker hosts, with shared persistent storage, as opposed to full swarm config. I use the context command to be able to address one host from the other. Makes it possible to run scripts such as dockcheck.sh from any of the docker hosts against another. Requires the user manually setup their contexts first. I can do a pull request if there’s any interest? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Mag37 · 2023-12-14 21:32 Oh nice! Happy to hear people who use the project in particular ways. I've been trying to not bolt on too much, I mean there's always features that can be added. If it doesn't interfere with general usage or require setup to be used generally, I'd happily see a suggestion/PR! If it can work as an option for people who wants it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Mag37 · 2023-12-14 21:35 Suggested by the users. To avoid early-release-bugs and let images settle some before upgrading to them. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-12-14 21:40 Yeah makes total sense. I would bet other tools will add this soon too. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- IgnisDa · 2023-12-15 07:16 Looks pretty cool! It suggests me to upgrade my postgres images. How does it handle database updates? What I normally do is export the database, delete the data dir and then import it into a new updated database instance. Does this script do all that or does it just bump the version? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Mag37 · 2023-12-15 07:24 No it does not handle any underlying backups/export/import. If you want a database to stay on a specific release, I'd suggest using a image tag other than "latest" - no matter if you use this script or not. If you want to use the script but handle the databases manually, you can exclude them with `dockcheck.sh -e ContainerName`.
