Jellyfin very slow reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rowi42 · 2023-12-14 18:19 I recently installed Jellyfin on my Synology 419play. I was looking for a way to easily show pictures (movies and music are less important). I installed it in Docker. Unfortunately, it is very slow. Especially when opening a folder for the first time, but also afterwards. Like, 20 seconds until the first pics are shown, and up to minutes until all are loaded. Did I do something wrong? There seem to be ways to install it outside of Docker, is this faster? Is there a good alternative (I tried Plex but find it slow AND inconvenient; and Synology Photos doesn't exist on Fire Stick, which is how I bring the photos to the TV). Thank you! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lilolalu · 2023-12-14 18:41 Check if it's still indexing your collection / downloading metadata etc. Once that is done it should get snappy but depending on the amount of media files that can take a while. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-12-14 18:47 If you find Plex also being very slow then its likely the hardware causing it. The 419play is no rocketship. Also Jellyfin has forums for support and discussions: https://www.redd it.com/r/jellyfin/comments/14c2bfg/rjellyfin_is_now_closed_please_visi t_us_at_our/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rowi42 · 2023-12-14 19:10 It took 10 hours or so where the system showed "indexing" or something like that. But it's still the case. So unless some process is ongoing since a week or so, these processes should be finished. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rowi42 · 2023-12-14 19:12 I agree. Though it's supposed to "play" movies etc, so I thought that displaying a few pics should be fine. But perhaps the chain NAS -> Jellyfin -> Fire Stick -> AV Receiver -> Beamer I simply too long... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Humble_Internet_5052 · 2023-12-14 19:15 How much ram does your nas have? I have a 220+ with 2gb ram and Jellyfin was slow as well. I added 4gb and all works well! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lilolalu · 2023-12-14 19:16 In any case, looking at the docker logs will give you a hint on what it is doing... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mrXmuzzz · 2023-12-14 21:20 Most likely spinny HDD is the bottleneck ---------------------------------------------------------------------- LoadingStill · 2023-12-15 00:21 Check to see if you have image chapter indexing on. That will make it so you have images when you are skipping through content but it adds a good bit of time to processing of media.
