ebook reader for pdf and epub reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- IacovHall · 2023-12-14 17:37 hey I've purchased several books in pdf and epub format and would like to self host a ebook library/media server to be used without an app and device independently it's important for me to be able to set bookmarks I've looked at calibre, komga and kavita Kavita and komga seem to be focused on manga and comics, but my books are either belletristic or rule books for miniature games with a mixture of writing and a lot of pictures calibre (web) could fit but I don't like that I have to use them in tandem to get the full feature set can you recommend one? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- timotheus95 · 2023-12-14 21:10 Komga and Kavita both support books, so the Manga focus shouldn't matter. Bookmarks are probably supported. I personally tried to use both and didn't adopt them, but if the following points aren't a problem for you, I would recommend Kavita over Komga. - They have pretty strict requirements on how your books are stored (folder structure, naming conventions). - I think there is a way to automatically match and download metadata, but the quality of the matching depends on the quality of the already existing metadata. - They refuse to edit file metadata, so if you want to change anything you have to either use an external program and rescan the books or only edit the metadata in their database without changing the files. Aka very annoying, if you use different apps to access the books. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mrbuckwheet · 2023-12-15 15:06 Try audiobookshelf. Yes it used mainly for audiobooks but there's support for an eReader builtin. It even has an ios and android app (i know you said you dont want it) for car support and user management tools for creating accounts. I paired it with calibre but you don't have to and use their metadata tools
