About to take the plunge! gmail > mailcow Please advise! reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- torreyn · 2023-12-14 13:26 Whew! I'm about to move my gmail to a mailcow but I'm scared! I've got my Vultr account set up, and I'm about to figure out how to spin up a mailcow server. My main concern is that I don't want to loose my 18 years of mail and complex label system. Before I install, I want to know: **How do I make absolutely sure that I keep my 10Gb of mail and all my labels?** I'm looking for a conceptual framework, not a tutorial. Assume I have my mailcow server up and running, what's the best way to migrate my mail and labels and maintain backups. I'm comfortable with the command line but I've never used Docker and need someone to tell me that Docker is not that scary. Bonus: I know I said I'm not looking for a tutorial, but if you happen to be able to recommend a good one specifically for setting up mailcow on Vultr, I would be greatful. Thanks! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-12-14 13:31 Just yesterday there was a post about "extracting" mails from gmail to another server, use the search. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- frogotme · 2023-12-14 13:43 imapsync Docker isn't scary and although you _can_ use it with Docker, there's standard executables too. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- torreyn · 2023-12-14 13:56 Cool. Any advise on backing up on the other stuff? What's a good method for maintaining backups once it's been migrated? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- labs-labs-labs · 2023-12-14 15:20 When you are done using the search for the above to get your email taken care of, you can Google "how do I download all of my data from Google". You'll find this in the top result... https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/3024190?hl=en Do that. Download all of your everything from them, then do the email transfer. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- labs-labs-labs · 2023-12-14 15:20 When you are done using the search for the above to get your email taken care of, you can Google "how do I download all of my data from Google". I am using it and find it easier to set up and back up than Mailcow ---------------------------------------------------------------------- smashcatroof · 2023-12-14 18:03 imapsync - for migrating mailboxes: `imapsync --tmpdir /tmp --nofoldersizes --delete2duplicates --ssl1 --ssl2 --subscribeall --automap --authmech1 PLAIN --host1 SOURCE-MAIL- HOST --user1 SOURCE-MAIL-USERNAME --password1 'PASSWORD' --port1 993 --host2 DEST-MAIL-HOST --port2 1993 --user2 DEST-MAIL-USERNAME --password2 'PASSWORD' --no-modulesversion --noreleasecheck --debug` ---------------------------------------------------------------------- torreyn · 2023-12-14 18:26 Thanks!
