Backing up my Dev machine over network to restore etc Any good tools? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- hadeeclick · 2023-12-14 10:07 Hi, i have turned my laptop into a dev environment and it works well with deploying apps etc to test localy from my main machine. My question is, if there is a easier way to backup a snapot of it as it is, and restore it to a said state over the network. Like how we would do on virtual machines make a certain snapshot and redeploy it at any time. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- THEKILLAWHALE · 2023-12-14 10:42 If Windows: https://www.veeam.com/agent-for-windows-community-edition.html Might be some free options for other OSes too if you’re running other. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ElevenNotes · 2023-12-14 10:51 Veeam, but just as a tip from a fellow dev: Do not develop on your local machine. Use containers like vscode server or others to develop only via remote systems. Ubuntu server on laptop. The laptop i have is pretty beefy one, has a 12th gen i9 and 64gb ram + good gpu. So felt like a waste as i never use it much. In this context my laptop is my remote serve or environment, if that makese sense? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Mean_Einstein · 2023-12-14 12:29 Restic ---------------------------------------------------------------------- vivekkhera · 2023-12-14 13:01 One guy I know just makes his working environment a VM which is the only thing running on his laptop. When he gets a new laptop he just moves the VM over. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- zaphod4th · 2023-12-14 14:26 I develop for more than one company with different stacks, I ended using virtual computers for each company/stack. And the end I backup the virtual machines files and I'm done. Helps to have 1GB network and at least 2TB space. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- brod33p · 2023-12-14 17:11 Or linux: https://www.veeam.com/linux-backup-free.html ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kmisterk · 2023-12-14 18:44 Hey, hadeeclick!
