SIM card server reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Old_Sail4396 · 2023-12-13 23:48 Does anyone know of a solution (commercial is better) that provides a server with SIM cards and allow controlling (making voice calls, SMS, Data sessions) through API or scripts ? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- KD_done · 2023-12-14 01:04 I am not sure if I understand what you are asking for, but it sounds like you are looking for an asterisk server. [https://www.asterisk.org/](https://www.asterisk.org/) 3cx is an alternative. [https://www.3cx.com/](https://www.3cx.com/) Both are selfhosted and offered as a service.. but, perhaps you are looking for something else entirely? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Old_Sail4396 · 2023-12-14 02:16 What I’m looking for is a hardware that takes SIM cards (like a SIM box) with a system offering APIs or scripts that allow initiating calls/data/SMS using those SIM cards. Not sure Asterisk and 3CX supports that. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lmux · 2023-12-14 03:18 If you are looking to insert 1 sim card only, quick way is to buy a 4g/5g mini pci-e modem (huawei, quectel, etc) and an external connector box over usb (https://www.amazon.com/EXVIST-Dongle- EG25-G-M2M-optimized-Module/dp/B0B39NWFGV). If you want to work with a bunch of sim cards, buy a commercial sim gateway as it'll be cheaper. You can communicate with the sim card with AT commands over tty. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- KD_done · 2023-12-14 09:04 Aaah.. right, well.. I don't think we are too far off in the line of thinking. So.. we need a bit of hardware that accepts a sim card but also sets up the GSM connection. Without that it would quite pointless. We are looking for either a modem, and then you can use asterisk on a server/vm of your choosing and let it operate the gsm modem as a "regular" modem. Think of hardware like the #08155 - (WOI-R900L-GPS) - [https://www.atel- electronics.eu/produkt.php?hash=08155](https://www.atel- electronics.eu/produkt.php?hash=08155) .. my preferred outbound sms- modem on monitoring servers. 3cx calls it FXS support of multiple options like; sip trunks, modems, pots and the sorts. And iirc, appliance builders like beronet have a router/sim-fallback/3xc PBX solution in one.. perhaps harder to sculpt to your liking. And any other brand is just as good/bad as what I suggested, it all works in similar ways. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TBT_TBT · 2023-12-14 09:27 Are you trying to set up an advert robocaller? If so f*** you. If there is a legit use for this, tell us. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Old_Sail4396 · 2023-12-14 11:37 Thanks for "fuck you"ing robocaller companies, they are a cancer. There is a legit use case for Telco companies to test roaming calls, detect SIM boxes … ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Old_Sail4396 · 2023-12-14 11:38 Thanks 🙏 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Old_Sail4396 · 2023-12-14 11:39 Thank you ---------------------------------------------------------------------- KD_done · 2023-12-14 14:16 Good luck! And the more specific your question, the easier it is to answer.. so, don't be shy with details if you got follow-ups :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kmisterk · 2023-12-14 18:46 ## Post Removed Hey, Old_Sail4396!
