Hiding IP on publicly hosted server? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Icy_Skill_909 · 2023-12-13 09:49 I host a public Minecraft server that is connected to my domain. How can I hide my IP address and only make it accessible through this domain? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Max-_-Power · 2023-12-13 09:59 No ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ElevenNotes · 2023-12-13 10:01 You can't, the domain name is translated into your IP and this information is publicly available to everyone on the internet. If you want to hide your residential IP address and still host a Minecraft server at home, the only option is to get a static IPv4 via VPN like Mullvad or a VPS. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- OwnSchedule2124 · 2023-12-13 10:02 HSTS through a proxy server means that connecting to an IP address won't result in connecting to the application behind it, but there is no legitimate concept of "hiding an IP address". That is impossible. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- itsmesid · 2023-12-13 10:04 Buy a Minecraft proxy hosting from someone like apex hosting . ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ElEd0 · 2023-12-13 10:05 You cant hide an IP that is connected to your domain. The domain name is just an alias that resolves to an IP on the client side. If you really wanted to hide your IP you should use an external service like cloudflare to reverse proxy the traffic to your server, in which case you would still need to configure some type of firewall to allow connections only from the cloudflare endpoint cause there are tons of bots constantly searching for minecraft servers and they could easely find it and your IP if you dont hide it somehow. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tillybowman · 2023-12-13 10:10 before anyone starts talking about reverse proxies, vpn and stuff: what is your intention behind it? why do you want to do it? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- antno1000 · 2023-12-13 10:11 Look at windscribe vpn services, the offer another service that proxies services like these while hiding your ip as info passes their servers.... Worth checking out! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- StockKnife · 2023-12-13 10:16 It can be done, tutorial here: https://www.reddit.com/r/admincraft/s/dBkhWUU2ir If you don't have much network experience or time to learn/test, go with a paid service such as Apex hosting :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- StockKnife · 2023-12-13 10:19 i believe you're right here with TCP only on cloudflared tunnels. Parsing traffic though A VPN tunnel to a VPS would probs be the way to go ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Madman1597 · 2023-12-13 10:25 Its not a bulletproof solution, but TCPShield, with the respective plugin installed, then map the TCPShield IP to your domain ---------------------------------------------------------------------- doodeoo · 2023-12-13 10:28 This is like saying "how can I tell someone how to drive to my house without letting them know where my house is" ---------------------------------------------------------------------- bufandatl · 2023-12-13 10:32 You can’t hide you public IP without that IP no one would be able to connect. It’s Networking 101. but what you can do as others said get a Minecraft proxy and host that on a VPS or have it hosted by someone else and have that IP exposed to clients while only your VPS sees your public IP in this communication setting. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- herrjonk · 2023-12-13 10:45 If I would selfhost minecraft server I'd put it on another internal network, but this might require some knowhow with vlans and/or creating interfaces in your firewall. VPS/rent a server will probably put you most at ease if you're inexperienced with port forwarding and security. Just expect that if you host something publicly you'll get scanned all the time, but if proper setup the risk is very low
