YouTuber/Channel recommendations for learning homelab/selfhost? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- RyRyGuyRyan · 2023-12-13 02:33 I'm a zoomer and I tend to learn 99% of things via video tutorials and tech content creator communties, are there any channels/video resources you would recommened for someone wanting to learn or understand self hosting and homelab networking? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-12-13 02:49 In no particular order: techno tim, christian lempa, craft computing, techhut. Someone will also mention network chuck but for my taste he leans a bit too far into the clickbait and "omg hacking" style. This question has been asked before not long ago, use the search to find existing recommendations. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Darkchamber292 · 2023-12-13 03:12 All great suggestions and I agree with the Network Chuck sentiment but even he can be fun to watch sometimes just for the entertainment but not so much for learning ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nguyening · 2023-12-13 05:55 Wolfgang is my favorite https://www.youtube.com/@WolfgangsChannel ---------------------------------------------------------------------- betodaviola · 2023-12-13 06:07 Well I know this is not exactly what you asked but it might be useful if I share how I learned it. I started because I was interested in Linux. I then installed Manjaro (wouldn't recommend nowadays) and at some point after distro hopping went to Arch. Thing is that I learned so much about how computers and OS work, including things about security and packages that when I got the chance to make a home server I just had to decide an OS and instead of videos it was easy to find info on Reddit and looking through GitHub packages because I already knew some of the vocabulary (hardest part for me to research stuff when I knew nothing). I think the only videos I used to set up my first server were a couple from Techno Dad Life channel, and that's because my networking skills still were not good enough (actually I'm still VERY bad at it). All that to say, installing a Linux OS (in my case an Arch based one) is the hell of a school to get comfortable with computer stuff in a hands on methods if you are like I was at the time and only knew.how to use windows. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Hanb1n · 2023-12-13 06:13 Lawrence Systems . ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Grand-Pudding6040 · 2023-12-13 06:18 Man there is a lot.
