Paperless-ngx - Searching Documents Question

I am confused as to how Paperless search works. The websites says

"When you search paperless for a document, it tries to match this
query against your documents. Paperless will look for matching
documents by inspecting their content, title, correspondent, type and
tags"

I have a document with the title "Smith, John - Car Report - XYZ"

If I search for "Smith," I get the result.

If I search for "smith report" I get nothing. This works only of I
switch to Advanced search.

How come the regular search Title & Content does not produce any
result when I search for  "smith report"  ?
