Methods for a personal social media like feed reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Random_Commonor · 2023-12-12 19:01 I'm not sure the right terminology as I don't want a self hosted social media circle where others can have their own page, but more like someone's own personal feed, page, or blog that others can visit through the web. I wanna be able to locally store photos, videos, and text. Then use software to run a web server or send the data to a service that will organize and format it into a layout akin to a social media page. I want privacy, but not super resistant in that fight. I more just want the files locally. If I need to change services/software or stop using them; I'll still have the data. So if I need to use a service to host a website more securely that's fine. I imagine amateurly self hosting a website can put your computers on your internet at risk. More worried about that then people and companies finding out about my life. Though I'd like to be able to post about my life on the web, and people who have a guest login or their own login can check on some website to see my feed. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Conscious-Fault-8800 · 2023-12-12 19:12 Youre just describing a ... blog? I was a wee-lad on the internet when blogs were even being mentioned still. So the concept is a bit overshadowed by instagram with peers for me. I just know the concept is feasible hah, because my mom had some website blog for me when I was like 10. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lilolalu · 2023-12-12 22:07 Or maybe something like a federated non evil Facebook type of thing like friendica? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- reklis · 2023-12-13 01:02 You have every right to be worried about the security of your network if you host something as bad as wordpress on it. Look into static site generators as a better solution. Something like gatsby, hugo or 11ty and using a headless cms as the content repository, something like strapi. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Square_Lawfulness_33 · 2023-12-14 01:06 Mastodon has a docker container you can easily get up and running.
