Mastodon with docker rootless, compose, and nginx reverse proxy reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- gromhelmu · 2023-12-12 17:26 Hey guys, I thought I'd share this here, if anyone is interested. Docker rootless is fun and works, you should definitely consider replacing your rootful setups! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kmisterk · 2023-12-14 22:34 Thank you for your share! For future reference, we ask that you create a text post with the link to the blog in the body of the text, and a few sentences on why it's relevant to the community. I've written down how I set up my Mastodon server here. This includes some topics that seem not well covered currently: - use nginx reverse proxy with the official [nginx.conf](https://githu b.com/mastodon/mastodon/blob/main/dist/nginx.conf), but with some changes needed for compatibility with docker - use rootless docker, for security, together with bind mounts, for maintainability - use compose, with some modifications to the official [docker- compose.yml](https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/blob/main/docker- compose.yml) that make life easier and are compatible with the reverse proxy My Mastodon server consumes about 1.6 GB Memory and 1% CPU on average, about 20GB Disk use (with the daily automated cleanups that I describe in the blog post). Let me know what you think or if it can be improved!
