Is anyone using uptime-kuma or a similar tool to monitor DuckDNS.org/sub-domains? I've observed sporadic periods of unavailability with my DuckDNS sub-domains. Am I the only one? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Zestyclose_Car1088 · 2023-12-12 13:56 Or is there something wrong with my setup? using docker-duckdns container to update the IP address and Caddy for the reverse proxy ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-12-12 14:08 Based on mentions in this sub it seems DuckDNS isnt the most reliable service and every now and then has issues. But its free. If youre looking for a good alternative give https://desec.io a try, they are a non-profit offering free subdomains in the form of `example.dedyn.io` and there are no premium accounts, no nag emails, based in germany. They also offer DNS management if you own a domain already and you can control it through their interface. Tools like ddclient for automatic updates and many Lets Encrypt clients are compatible with it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Zestyclose_Car1088 · 2023-12-12 14:30 >Based on mentions in this sub it seems DuckDNS isnt the most reliable service and every now and then has issues. I wonder what the long term percentage uptime is or what should I expect? >If youre looking for a good alternative give https://desec.io a try, they are a non-profit offering free subdomains in the form of example.dedyn.io Are these reliable enough?? It's probably time to get a domain... recommendations welcome! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-12-12 14:36 > Are these reliable enough?? Thats very relative. Plenty of people will say they have no issues with DuckDNS too. And i have no issues with DeSEC. But all of that is just anecdotal. > It's probably time to get a domain... recommendations welcome! Depending on where you are hosting your Uptime Kuma and on what type of uplink, you also should consider nightly connection reset on DSL lines / dynamic IP renewal among other things for temporary unreachable domains. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-12-12 22:34 Yep afraid still exists, used it for years with few but not zero issues. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lilolalu · 2023-12-12 22:42 I think a lot (if not most?) of the domain providers offer a dyndns like API nowadays, so you can just point your domain or subdomain to a dynamic IP... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- VinylNostalgia · 2023-12-12 23:46 cloudflare is honestly one of the best companies I dealt with
