New in selfhosted... reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Zicoxy3 · 2023-12-12 11:14 Hello, I'm getting started in selfhosting. I have some ideas like Jellyfin, Peertube or Navidrome.... What other services do you have hosted on your servers? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Legitimate_Farm_3095 · 2023-12-12 11:17 search the sub for "newbie" , "beginner" "just getting started" read the pinned post "Welcome to /r/SelfHosted! Please Read This First" ---------------------------------------------------------------------- laxweasel · 2023-12-12 12:30 https://github.com/awesome-selfhosted/awesome-selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- universal_boi · 2023-12-12 12:30 I started with nextcloud, then arr stack with Jellyfin and then matrix with bridges (one app for IG and messenger and DM self hosted), bitwarden and navidrome. I use these every day. It started as a hobby to tinker but now I started sharing the services with my gf and the need to do backups, security and make sure it runs 24/7 started being the next challenge. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-12-12 12:46 And another one too lazy to even use the search, let alone look at the sidebar. * [What next?](https://www.reddit.com/r/selfhosted/search?q=what+next& restrict_sr=on&include_over_18=on&sort=relevance&t=all) * [What should i host?](https://www.reddit.com/r/selfhosted/search?q=w hat+should+host&restrict_sr=on&include_over_18=on&sort=relevance&t=all ) * [Get started](https://www.reddit.com/r/selfhosted/search?q=get+start ed&restrict_sr=on&include_over_18=on&sort=relevance&t=all) * [Beginner](https://www.reddit.com/r/selfhosted/search?q=beginner&res trict_sr=on&include_over_18=on&sort=relevance&t=all) * [Bored](https://www.reddit.com/r/selfhosted/search?q=bored&restrict_ sr=on&include_over_18=on&sort=relevance&t=all) * and so many more And of course, look at the subreddit sidebar, find the [awesome- selfhosted list](https://github.com/Kickball/awesome-selfhosted) and work your way through that. There is also a big fat sticky ["Please read this first"](https://www.reddit.com/r/selfhosted/comments/bsp01i/ welcome_to_rselfhosted_please_read_this_first/) thread that you ignored. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BunkerMoewe · 2023-12-12 13:05 Start with the things you listed and try to look for some best practices along the way. This should introduce some challenges that can be overcome with other self-hosted services. This is how I came up with some of my services I self-host. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- joelnodxd · 2023-12-12 13:12 copying my comment from elsewhere: * Plex for displaying my media in a nice way, paired with a lifetime Plex Pass, mostly for Plexamp - I've considered Jellyfin, but Plex ultimately does all I want it to do and imo looks nicer * SynoCommunity to add even more packages to your Package Manager - needed for the next 5 services * Radarr - automatically catalog your current movie library, update their quality to a better one when available, auto find torrents for you and auto get new movies in a series * Lidarr - same as Radarr but for music and getting new music from artists you like when they come out * Sonarr - same as the previous two but for TV shows, can grab new episodes of ongoing shows when they release * Transmission - torrent client that is required if you actually want the previous three to download anything * Jackett - optional but makes adding torrent indexers to the 'arrs much easier * Immich - Google Photos alternative, supports nearly all of the same features and has a really good mobile app * PiHole - network wide ad blocking * Portainer - allows you to actually use Pihole and Immich (I recommend all the other MariusDB Hosting guides for anything else Synology related) * Tailscale - (afaik) is available on the Package Manager, is optional but allows you to access your NAS from anywhere so you can access the 'arrs to add new stuff to Plex if you're travelling, back up to Immich, etc. It's also incredibly easy to set up, you just need to connect to the VPN and you'll have a hostname and IP address you can use from anywhere (e.g. I can just go to name-synology:5000 in my browser in another country to access my NAS) * Finally, Homarr to display all these services in one neat page, along with integrations for a few of these to display their stats without having to go into each one by one Obviously these are in the context of a Synology NAS, but a little google should get you started ---------------------------------------------------------------------- modernDayKing · 2023-12-12 13:18 Was ticking all the boxes like hey, I’m doing alright ! But didn’t have homarr. Thanks ! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- joelnodxd · 2023-12-12 13:21 there's also Homepage and some others but Homarr is easily the easiest to use ---------------------------------------------------------------------- modernDayKing · 2023-12-12 13:24 I always wondered why there wasn’t just one ARR and you could enable the modules you wanted. Seems crazy to have to run so many, nearly identically, media adjacent services. But I’m not complaining. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- joelnodxd · 2023-12-12 13:26 it can be confusing, but I find once you have them set up it makes sense that they're split up, lets you have different notifications for each, different clients, indexers, etc and in the long run would be less confusing trying to find a specific media given that you know which service to look in ---------------------------------------------------------------------- White_-_Lightning · 2023-12-12 13:42 I bet when a grad comes up to you asking for help, you tell them to google it hey 😂😂 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-12-12 13:47 If you say so. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Square_Lawfulness_33 · 2023-12-12 13:58 [linuxserver.io](https://docs.linuxserver.io/) is a great resource for most homelab services with excellent documentation on how to configure everything. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- horticulturist94 · 2023-12-12 14:37 This sub isn't anyone's personal search engine or research team. We're here to discuss self hosting, not answer the thousandth iteration of tell me what to do with my own hardware because I'm too lazy to figure it out for myself. In my opinion self hosting is a bad idea if you can't even figure out what you want to run. How are they supposed to troubleshoot all the problems that come with this hobby? Come here and ask us to solve it for them? No thanks. There are other subreddits that exist for troubleshooting and there's a wealth of resources showing all the options for self hosting. Go there first. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kmisterk · 2023-12-12 16:11 Thanks for your submission on selfhosted, Zicoxy3. here at /r/selfhosted, we want to make sure everyone gets their chance to try out self-hosting their apps. It's a lot of information, and we are ready to help! However, it doesn't look like you tried very hard to look up options or solutions on your own. For future reference, please try and link to or list what you've already tried, and give some specifics about the issue or project you're coming across so we can help you help yourself as efficiently as possible. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CobreDev · 2023-12-12 16:57 Also, Sonarr is made by a different dev team ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Zicoxy3 · 2023-12-13 11:56 Very thanks... Very interesting. As I mentioned, I'm interested in Peertube or something similar to upload my videos, Navidrome, maybe Nextcloud, Bitwarden, Wallabag and Pi-Hole.... I'm starting with Docker. The truth is that if I learn, a very wide and interesting world opens up... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- laterral · 2023-12-13 15:38 🍿😆
