Best Practices/approach for Developing a BIND DNS Server API? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- boyahmed · 2023-12-12 10:46 Managing DNS with BIND due to unavoidable requirements, our dev environment necessitates a user-friendly method for handling A, AAAA, and CNAME records. My current strategy involves Zone-Transfer and Dynamic Updates via TSIG/IP whitelisting, paired with a web app for displaying records (via zone transfer) and creating them through form submissions processed as HTTP requests. While functional, one significant challenge is handling "external" vs. "internal" views in BIND, where dynamic updates aren't possible for zones defined in both views. Is there a better strategy, or is my current approach on the right track? How can we effectively manage internal-only records alongside our external DNS entries? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ElevenNotes · 2023-12-12 12:16 By splitting the service into an internal BIND cluster and external BINF cluster. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- boyahmed · 2023-12-12 13:13 Can you please elaborate more? it's not completely clear to me how would this work ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ElevenNotes · 2023-12-12 13:15 You run a bunch of BIND containers as internal DNS and another bunch of BIND containers as external. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- boyahmed · 2023-12-12 13:28 Gotcha! thanks! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kmisterk · 2023-12-12 16:11 ## Post Removed Hey, boyahmed!
