Self Hosted Video Player With Registration and Membership Section Software reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Effective-Eye-9928 · 2023-12-12 04:29 I know this exists because I used it back 10+ years ago when I was working in another industry, but since then I can't find anything close... or I don't know what I'm doing lol I want a video player that will run on my server. After XX seconds, a box pops up for the user to register a FREE account to the "Members Section". Then the video plays until either 1. another XX seconds pass and requires the member to "join" via paid subscription to the members section 2. plays till the end and takes them to the library of content \*IF they are to join the members area, there would be the ability to buy just that video, or a monthly membership to all or a selected group of videos. TIA! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- h3r4ld · 2023-12-12 04:56 What you're describing is a streaming service. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Effective-Eye-9928 · 2023-12-12 04:58 If you can't tell, I'm old so I go back to the quicktime and VLC player days lol Know of any offhand that do this type of thing? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- h3r4ld · 2023-12-12 06:31 No, I meant "you're describing Netflix". Not really in the realm of 'self-hosted'. Plex or Jellyfin will serve the media just fine, but they're not going to do memberships and payments and time-limited previews and all that. Presumably you're aiming to serve more than just a few friends or you wouldn't be asking about memberships & signups and all, so what you're talking about (even on a relatively small scale) would take a not-insignificant amount of infrastructure. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Yurgenst · 2023-12-12 09:46 This sort of leaves the realm of self hosted. Many of us run our own media servers but its generally just for close friends/family. Once you start charging for your service there are a ton of other factors. You need to own the rights to distribute the media, you'll need servers in multiple locations to provide consistent access, and you'll need to be treating all of your customer data with the care it deserves. I think what you're looking for is going to require paying someone to do it right.
