Dead Man's Switch/Legacy Deliverer reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rocky123xo · 2023-12-11 20:09 Looking for a (preferably self-hosted) solution for a dead man's switch. Found this weird WP plugin while looking around ([https://emergencywp.net](https://emergencywp.net)) and on paper it looks great. In practice wouldn't trust it with a dollar bill until I've seen it can be reliable. Ideally a solution that I can use for text as well as files, encrypted, all the goods. I use vaultwarden currently and saw it has a digital will feature but haven't really tinkered with it yet. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- StarExplorerOne · 2023-12-11 20:40 I would never use wordpress, the risk of being hacked or the site breaking due to an update is too high. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rocky123xo · 2023-12-11 20:41 Definitely of the same opinion. I just like the visuals of the plugin, something that family could easily understand. Just wish they had a version that ran in Docker or something. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- StarExplorerOne · 2023-12-11 20:46 Ya, but I think the idea with the self-hosted digital plan with a nice UI is really great, let's see what the swarm intelligence conjures up from the drawer at tools ---------------------------------------------------------------------- OldAndDusty · 2023-12-11 21:55 **I wouldn't use any online solution.** Just copy something like [potatoqualitee/eol-dr](https://github.com/potatoqualitee/eol-dr), write your passwords on it and stick it to a bank safe deposit box or something like that. If you really need to guarantee instant access to your credentials, give the envelope to a trusted person for safekeeping. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rocky123xo · 2023-12-11 22:22 I would, but I'm on the other side of the globe as my family. Could make it work, but since most of my services are online anyway, just makes sense to do it that way. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Bananenhaus23 · 2023-12-12 06:14 Have a look at this: https://www.reddit.com/r/selfhosted/s/8ay8yzg4mZ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Defiant-Ad-5513 · 2023-12-12 11:54 How stable are your services when you just leave them alone? Any cloud dependencies? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rocky123xo · 2023-12-12 14:55 No dependencies other than internet which is rock solid where I’m at 🤷‍♂️ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Defiant-Ad-5513 · 2023-12-12 16:57 No i mean are you sure that if you leave it for 1 or more moths will everything still work even you do nothing. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rocky123xo · 2023-12-12 17:28 Ah I gotcha. Yeah barring anything crazy it takes care of itself ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tech2but1 · 2023-12-12 18:28 Nah fuck that. I wouldn't trust any one of these services, I don't even trust any of the tech I use currently but I definitely wouldn't want a "digital will" type thing being fired off when the service has a hiccup or the intern presses the wrong button. Somewhere there is the password for my KeePass/Bitwarden vaults so if I drop dead someone will find them. If not then fuck it, not my problem! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- schizotypalLife · 2023-12-25 06:50 [Deadmanswitch.com](https://Deadmanswitch.com)
