Minecraft reverse proxy reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- electricMiner · 2023-12-11 18:59 Is it possible to run a minecraft server behind a reverse TCP proxy server? When a client attempts to connect to the server the reverse proxy would determine which computer has a lighter load and forward the TCP traffic there. Is there any tutorial on how to set something like this up? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ElevenNotes · 2023-12-11 19:16 Yes. Use haproxy with a custom script to check for the load of the minecraft servers. You have to use sticky sessions though since its a game server. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BlatantMediocrity · 2023-12-11 19:33 Yeah you would also have issues if you have a couple friends who want to join the same server, but then the load balancer silently switches them to different hosts when they join. I've seen people set up servers with each game server on its own subdomain. When you join the top-level domain, you get redirected with the load balancer, but if you join via entering the subdomain then you'll always end up at the same server. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-12-11 22:22 /r/Admincraft btw ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Lumsti · 2023-12-11 22:27 There are already solutions for this. They are optimized for Minecraft Serverfarms. Search for Multipaper, Bungegate (Bungeecord Loadbalancing), Velocity, Waterfall etc. Those are used by the really big Minecraft Servers with thousand of players as well. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ice-h2o · 2023-12-12 06:54 Mc Router by itzg https://github.com/itzg/mc-router ---------------------------------------------------------------------- electricMiner · 2023-12-13 17:33 Thanks. Multipaper looks like it would work for me.
