Considering Dual WAN Setup, need advice reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Farmer_Pete · 2023-12-11 17:22 TLDR: I'm looking to diversify my internet at home. How difficult is it to have dual wan + self hosted services available from either, when one of those is using CGNAT. Just a little background on my needs. I'm currently self hosting multiple things from an Unraid server that I've configured to be available via a reverse proxy through Cloudflare+SWAG. Nextcloud, plex, homeassistant, vaultwarden, foundryvtt, and some random gaming servers. My ISP is a regional cable provider that I currently have a 1000/50 line with. I typically use 2-2.5tb of use per month between work/streaming/hosted stuff/etc/backups. I've got a UniFi Dream machine pro, which should be able to use dual WAN for load balancing. I've been on the fence about lowering my cable modem speeds and using some of that extra money for a T-Mobile home internet service. My big concern is that I know T-Mobile self hosting is more difficult (cgnat). Would it be practical to use a 500/50mbps cable + T-Mobile cell plan and route them all through a vps for self hosted services (still sending "normal" web traffic directly)? Can I have cloudflare resolve my stuff to my vps and my cable IP and if one goes down, the other will just pick up? Or should I just stick with using cable for all self hosted stuff but then I can use the T-Mobile more for backup data consumption? I just like the idea that if my cable modem goes down, I can still provide hosted services. I've had my cable modem die while hosting a game night for friends and if I can without adding too much complexity, I'd like to fix that problem. I also like that if we have an extended power outage, I could potentially still keep services available (home is on standby generator, but my cable providers equipment has about a 1hr UPS, so after an hour of power being out, internet drops). The cell phone towers seem to not suffer from that same problem. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-12-11 17:47 /r/HomeNetworking ---------------------------------------------------------------------- murdaBot · 2023-12-13 07:24 It's not difficult. If you need to bypass the CGNAT, just use Cloudflare Tunnels or any of the freely available projects that bypass CGNAT via a VPS tunnel.
