Sharing family pictures securely reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Something123who · 2023-12-11 13:27 Is there something out there that can be used to share (family) pictures securely? Ideally docker and app, since a browser doesn't block screenshots. The only features needed are: a web backend to upload pictures and an app to view them (without sharing, downloading or screenshotting them) Even if our immediate relatives know that we don't want it posted anywhere, I wouldn't trust all of them to respect this decision, but if someone sends it to some else, we can't controll that it's not being posted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- abite · 2023-12-11 13:45 I've been wondering about this. Would love an app or something I can use to essentially turn a tablet on cell service (no wifi) into a digital picture frame for my oma so she can see family pictures as she lives so far away. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- from-nibly · 2023-12-11 14:13 There isn't a way to make that actually secure. If you just want to make it harder there may be something, but you can't actually truly prevent people from obtaining the photo that's on their phone screen. I think immich has an app no idea if it has "screenshot blocking" ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mrXmuzzz · 2023-12-11 14:23 Google photos shared album lol Joke. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- silence036 · 2023-12-11 14:28 Immich has shared albums as well, but honestly if they can see the picture there's not much you can do to prevent them from sharing. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TCKline01 · 2023-12-11 14:53 Plex has a decent photos section. It's as easy as pointing the Plex server at your photos album and they're shared. It even has a shuffle option where it will randomly scroll through your pics like a slideshow. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mentalsoup42 · 2023-12-11 15:44 My vote would be Immich as you can use oauth. Immich has really good UI for general use, but nothing I am aware of can prevent screen shots. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- GuySensei88 · 2023-12-11 16:05 I use Nextcloud for my files and media. I don’t think you can prevent them sharing it once you share the media with them though. I’ll have to do some extra research to see what else may be out there. I know that some apps will notify the user who shared a photo that it was screenshot but they’re not self hosted. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ttadam · 2023-12-11 17:00 There was something about this in selfhosted podcast, around the time when a father got blocked. I got it: https://docs.photoprism.app/ https://selfhosted.show/32 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- guesswhochickenpoo · 2023-12-11 20:37 To add to that even if you could prevent screen capture on the viewing device there is no possible way to prevent someone from just using another phone or a camera to take a picture of the screen of the viewing device. Even if everything could be solved digitally there's still the 'analogue' world of the photos leaving the screen. Sounds silly but you'd be surprised how many things like that people do out of sheer convenience even if it it degrades the quality, especially older generations. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- liveyourdreamsmax · 2023-12-11 21:06 Photographers use some JavaScript tools to prevent right clicks and screenshots. Might look into that. We have had to set and re-set boundaries on not sharing photos of our kids on social media. One fun time was requesting a family member with an IG presence to take down a post bc they put our kids up on it. Got to hear the ins and outs of engagement and their business. There’s not a good way to stop people from sharing except setting boundaries with them. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- gold_rush_doom · 2023-12-11 21:08 Get yourself a Synology DS, it comes with easy to use software with which you can self host your photos, documents, chat, personal drive, etc. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lespasapp · 2023-12-12 00:20 Nextcloud + [Les Pas](https://github.com/scubajeff/lespas#readme). Family members can co-edit the same album too. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 007craft · 2023-12-12 10:20 I sync my photos from my phone to PC automatically with syncthing I view my photos with photoprism I share my photos through nextcloud. I can send them to people easily who dont have accounts ---------------------------------------------------------------------- SysAdmin-Universe · 2023-12-12 18:22 and there are plenty of easy tools to disable that javascript..... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- liveyourdreamsmax · 2023-12-12 21:37 Yea…I dunno how tech savvy their family is. And why I said there’s not a good way to achieve what they want to do
