all in one ServArr script/guide? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DemandTheOxfordComma · 2023-12-11 01:21 Yes, This is another post asking for recommendations on the easiest way to setup a media stack server. I've read through all the previous threads, but am unsure how to proceed. . I've got a windows machine with jackett, radarr, qbittorrent which drops files on my Synology NAS shares. This is the way i prefer to do it, having the services on a separate machine with VPN, while my NAS is just a NAS. I want to move to a linux machine with everything integrated and add services later. Probably prefer something containerized that can be managed from a webpage. . I don't really know how to use links to my NAS in linux, all the guides assume that you're going to store media files in the same place as the Arr services. . I'd like to move to a linux vm which has all the arrs, and a few things, like: prowlarr/overseerr jackett (but I think there's something people like better) radarr sonarr qbittorrent and maybe a few other things like: something to store/edit documentation (maybe something easier than mediawiki) uptimekuma, etc . I'm not good at docker yet, but I have a basic understanding. I'm open to an all in one script as long as it documented well what to config and it can be customized a bit once I get the hang of how to do this better. Or a youtube series that I can watch.. or a webpage that walks you through it? I don't want it just handed to me, I'm willing to put in some work, but streamlined would be nice. I'm a windows guy.. getting older and trying to learn, but linux has never been a strength for me. . Any recommendations that will get me the best bang for my buck to get started so I can learn and document as I go would be appreciated. I know things change over time (like I just learned people dont prefer jackett anymore), so I'm looking for the latest greatest, streamlined solution that can be adapted to what I need. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-12-11 01:27 Take it one step at a time, not all at once. Setup a VM with Debian or Ubuntu LTS, then install Docker, then pick one service to deploy there and focus on that. Doing so you will learn the basics and once that one is working, you deploy the next one. Plenty of guides and videos exist about each step. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- bciu55 · 2023-12-11 01:41 I agree with the single service route. Get every piece working for that one service as expected. I started out with mounting my remote mounts, plex (& it's permissions) and then I found [YAMS](https://www.reddit.com/r/selfhosted/s/zivKcgjgtI). It took me a while but, once you figure out the infrastructure via your first service, you should be able to expand from there. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mine_username · 2023-12-11 07:40 Definitely check out [YAMS](https://yams.media). The dev's website has a solid walkthrough and he's active in the discord channel. The script even installs docker for you if not already installed. Every time I looked into setting up a starr stack I got overwhelmed and abandoned ship. Then I found yams and got it setup and working the same day. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- GapWonderful · 2023-12-11 17:00 not sure if you'd be open to this. once i learned about nzb's i dumped torrents entirely. because once something goes out of style (no longer popular) the amount of people seeding drops and then you're SOL. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DemandTheOxfordComma · 2023-12-11 21:14 Update: Okay.. I dove into it. I have opevpn running, radarr, lidarr, sonarr running. I created a mount which mounts to my nas /mnt/Music which goes to //server/Music/Lidarr. then I created a symbolic link to link /mnt/Music to /opt/LidarrMusic and tried to set my "root directory" in Lidarr to /opt/LidarrMusic and it says it can't write to it. If I create a directory under that to symlink my /mnt/Music to /opt LidarrMusic/Music, then Lidarr can write to LidarrMusic (which is local) but it can't write to the Nas directory. I can, however write using my login as root. How do I simulate writing as Lidarr to troubleshoot?
