Proper place for help reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Curmudgeons_dungeon · 2023-12-10 23:24 Is there a place on Reddit or discord or anywhere else, where I can go for help support or mentorship. I know I would need to bring a breakdown of current super simplistic setup, what I’m trying to make work and what is failing but here looks more like a place to show off than to seek help so I thought I’d just ask. Most of what I’m trying to do is from websites that did it a while back so things have changed or GitHub accts with documentation assuming you are already a master of docker. I often feel like I’m in a chicken or the egg scenario can’t do x without y but don’t know how to do y because I never got x to work. I do know a lot of my issue is that I’m not trying to develop so much and don’t have a need for ci/cd as I am simply combining multiple services to a single machine instead of multiple vms but I like the idea of containerization. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-12-11 00:28 /r/TechSupport /r/LinuxQuestions /r/Linux4Noobs /r/Docker and many more exist. But regardless where, you need to be willing to learn and invest time. Most things in selfhosting are not one-button-click projects, each setup is a little different and you need to learn some basics. If you dont have any spare time and you dont want to learn these things, you might be better off just buying a ready-to-use NAS device from like /r/Synology or /r/QNAP that come with a form of "appstore" where you can select what to install and it gets done for you, ready to use. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Jonteponte71 · 2023-12-11 01:59 Have you tried youtube? There are literally thousands of videos on any selfhosting subject under the sun there. Entier channels dedicated to step by step instructions on how to set shit up? Sometimes also with corresponding websites with the steps in writing as well… ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Curmudgeons_dungeon · 2023-12-11 02:11 Actually I feel kinda stupid I watched a ton of learn docker videos but never looked at any actual app deployments I may google some tomorrow ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DownWithMatt · 2023-12-11 05:40 I, for one, don't know everything. Hell,. There is probably less that I do know than I don't. But I'd be happy to lend you any of my knowledge to further your own. And if I don't have the answer, I might have, at the very least, a recommendation of someone who might be able to answer your question. I'm not great at always checking this app. But I feel as that this the point of an online community. How all those who answered critically. Shame. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Jonteponte71 · 2023-12-11 09:33 It’s really about understanding the concept. The actual practical application of it (deploying and running applications) is often very simple. It took me a while to grok as well and I have been working in IT since 2001 :)
