What's the proper way of setting up everything from scratch and making migration easy? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- leonheartx1988 · 2023-12-10 20:30 Hello everyone! I have a local machine with Proxmox and I have self hosted VirtualMin, Apache, Docker, NextCloud, Plex and I am happy with the configuration and everything. Howveer, those were set up with the traditional way: apt install And I believe I will have a hard way of migrating, because everything have been setup locally and I'm considering for example, migrating NextCloud to Cloud VPS. Problem is I'll have to go through the whole configuration process again, create a VPS/Cluster with Ubuntu Server, ssh on it, install NextCloud etc. The whole process is painful and this why I'm asking. One of the traditional ways for migrating that I know of, is with docker, configure everything on the image, port forward the ports and I think I will be fine. But are there any alternatives? Like configure everything, package it along with it's configuration, create the VPS, upload the package to the VPS, configure the DNS and done. Something as simple as a set of bash scripts work, something more sophisticated like an Ansible role also works.
