Change planning and management reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dargx001 · 2023-12-10 01:06 I’ve recently started learning more about DevOps practices and as a result self hosting quite a bit. I’ve looked around a bit on some of the awesome GitHub repos, and didn’t see anything that really fit what I was looking for. What do you all use to plan your future changes you want to implement on your systems? For now I’ve been using TODO files in my GitHub repositories. I’ve considered adding issues for the changes I’d like to make and then adding them to projects, but that’s seems a bit cumbersome as the only way I’ve learned to do that so far is manually. For example, I’ve got one repo I’ve been adding all my ansible playbooks to. Each system has its own folder, with its own playbooks. Earlier this week I was learning about Ansible roles, and realized that this repo would be better suited for that. I’m in the middle of setting up a Kubernetes cluster. I’d like to at least finish that up and have a functional cluster before I move over to creating my role. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BakGikHung · 2023-12-10 02:38 I don't think you're going to discover a method that magically works, what you've tried is pretty much what I do. I would add that if it's just you, why bother with the project management stuff? Unless you find it fun. Just work on your ansible repo one feature at a time. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BakGikHung · 2023-12-10 02:48 I don't think you're going to discover a method that magically works, what you've tried is pretty much what I do. I would just find it useful for documenting where I’m at, things I’ve had ideas to implement, and things I’ve done. I don’t mind the method I’m using now. I would like something that integrates a little closer and eliminates some of the manual work that comes along with it though. I don’t expect to find something that automates the process either, though it would be nice.
