Synikogy surveillance station vs self hosted reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ErraticLitmus · 2023-12-09 21:25 I've just added a bunch of security cameras into my home network and will soon add a few more....now I need to make a decision - do I expand my Synology Surveillance station licensing or do I build a VM on my proxmox host? I really like the ease of use of surveillance station and the associated android app, but the cost.of additional camera licensing isn't attractive, particularly as it fully binds me into the Synology ecosystem. I know there are some good self hosting options around but haven't devled into them in depth... Can anyone comment on their experience of Synology vs other self hosted solution and pros/cons etc? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- padamdam · 2023-12-09 21:54 Synology seem to have lifted the free camera limit https://www.reddit.com/r/synology/comments/17rdcu7/surveillance_statio n_latest_update_91310869/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ErraticLitmus · 2023-12-10 01:02 They've basically let users determine their own hardware limits, but you still need to pay for the licenses
