Just deleted my last.fm account – thanks to Maloja and multi-scrobbler reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- igmyeongui · 2023-12-09 01:21 Literally took me 1 hour to setup everything and now my Plex and Spotify scrobbles everything locally. I've backed up over 12 years of last.fm scrobbling with this [tool](https://benjaminbenben.com/lastfm-to-csv/) and imported it in Maloja. [Maloja Github link](https://github.com/krateng/maloja#maloja) [multi-scrobbler Github link](https://github.com/FoxxMD/multi- scrobbler) It just works and I wanted to thank the developers of these apps! https://preview.redd.it/m6py6itw765c1.png?width=347&format=png&auto=we bp&s=0e170620ec120cc0682ad339ff62c7c564b2a07d The feeling of leaving a service and a social media is joyful. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- asurarusa · 2023-12-09 01:28 Why did you want to leave last.fm? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- igmyeongui · 2023-12-09 01:41 I'm *trying* to keep things simple and own my personal data. Also from the Maloka docs; >Keep it Simple: Unlike Last.fm and similar alternatives, Maloja doesn't have social networking, radios, recommendations or any other gimmicks. It's a tool to keep track of your listening habits over time - and nothing more. I was kinda surprised that their "Features" list wasn't speaking about privacy at all. I know it's impossible to use the internet 100% privately. At least, when I can take back some data about myself from big enterprises, I do it. In the end, [last.fm](https://last.fm), wasn't of any purpose for me, except scrobbling. Their site never much evolved and I feel like they could shut down anytime now and none of my friends are scrobbling anymore. I wouldn't go to the bar just because they have a pinball machine but I'm happy to have one home! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Plane_Resolution7133 · 2023-12-09 01:53 The power of services like last.fm is discovering new music from what *others* are listening to, connecting with like minded, and get recommendations. My own listening history isn’t very important. I haven’t been on last.fm in like a decade, but I liked it a lot back then. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- fortisvita · 2023-12-09 02:18 TIL last fm still exists. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- marxist_redneck · 2023-12-09 03:17 TIL scrobbling is a verb! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- LastTreestar · 2023-12-09 12:22 I love verbing nouns. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Other_Engineering454 · 2023-12-09 16:27 Same. My favorite feature is finding similar artists. I have a script that finds them and ads them to lidarr (paced in a way that I only get about 5 new artists a week). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Plane_Resolution7133 · 2023-12-09 17:23 That’s very cool. What playback software do you use? I gave up on last.fm years ago when their software rarely worked with iTunes, and just forgot about it. My account from 2005 is still active I noticed, should get back to using it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- marxist_redneck · 2023-12-09 19:33 Then I should have said TIL that scrobble is a word, period ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jobarr · 2023-12-09 20:40 Does anyone have a good solution for mirroring/backing up your last.fm account? I don't really want to delete mine per se, but I'd love a functional local copy! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- pathtomelophilia · 2023-12-09 22:06 I'm too on the same boat but I use last.fm as an intermediate with scrobbler on mobile to multi-scrobbler, just make life a bit easy. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Other_Engineering454 · 2023-12-10 00:19 I just play it through plex. Haven't had an issue yet. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- FoxxMD · 2023-12-14 18:53 Hi! I'm the developer of multi-scrobbler. Late the party but glad the app is useful for you :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- FoxxMD · 2023-12-14 18:57 multi-scrobbler can work as a backup tool for [last.fm](https://last.fm). * Setup Maloja and use one of the [recommended tools](https://github.com/krateng/maloja#data) to import your existing [last.fm](https://last.fm) history into it * Setup multi-scrobbler * Use [last.fm](https://github.com/FoxxMD/multi-scrobbler/blob/mast er/docsite/docs/configuration/configuration.md#lastfm-source) as a [source](https://github.com/FoxxMD/multi-scrobbler#source) and [maloja](https://github.com/FoxxMD/multi-scrobbler/blob/master/docsite /docs/configuration/configuration.md#maloja) as a [client](https://github.com/FoxxMD/multi-scrobbler#client) multi-scrobbler will monitor your [last.fm](https://last.fm) history and scrobble (mirror it, basically) to maloja ---------------------------------------------------------------------- igmyeongui · 2023-12-15 12:05 It's doing wonders! There's one thing missing, and it's analog audio source scrobbler. I'd love to be able to scrobble my vinyl records. It would be dope to be able to use the new home assistant vocal assistant to scrobble to multi-scrobbler! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jobarr · 2023-12-18 19:10 Thanks. I'll have a look!
