What can I do with a TS-670? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- phillee81 · 2023-12-08 22:49 I switched to Synology last year so I have my old QNAP TS-670 just sitting on a shelf in my office. Looking for some ideas on what I can do with it. I don't want to use QTS, I heard that Unraid can run on these but haven't looked into it much. Could it possibly be used as just a direct attached storage for my Plex server? Is it even worth using? I was going to buy 6 x 18-22TB drives.... will it even support that big? Looking for opinions if I should even waste my time messing with it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-12-09 00:30 /r/QNAP ---------------------------------------------------------------------- phillee81 · 2023-12-09 00:31 Posted there as well ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-12-09 00:33 This sub here is about selfhosting software services, not about any old hardware advice. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- phillee81 · 2023-12-09 00:34 Guess you didn't read the actual question. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-12-09 00:35 I did. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- phillee81 · 2023-12-09 00:35 👍 have a nice day! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-12-09 00:38 Thanks, you too. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mrXmuzzz · 2023-12-09 00:56 Chuck some disks to it and use the storage for other things like attach it as iscsi ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Mintfresh22 · 2023-12-09 04:20 What does this have to do with self-hosting? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- phillee81 · 2023-12-09 08:54 Asking for what others would do with this hardware as in... what would you run on it self hosting.. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Mintfresh22 · 2023-12-09 15:00 You seem rather ignorant. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- phillee81 · 2023-12-09 15:08 And you seem rather rude. This hardware is obviously able to be used to self host services. I'm already using my Synology for self hosting a bunch of dockers, but with the age of this QNAP I was just looking for suggestions/opinions on what others would do with it. Have a nice day. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Mintfresh22 · 2023-12-09 16:04 Rather be rude than a dumb ass like you. If you want to know what to do with it, then stick it up your ass. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DrDJF · 2023-12-09 16:57 I have install OMV onto an old TS 459 Pro that I upgraded to 2GB ram and added an internal USB hdd that it boot from. Pretty standard install. Works OK. Does have docker so you could self host but the performance on the 459 is a bit poor so I use it as smb nfs and it has an iscsi plugin that I have used to connect esxi as a data store. The 670 should have a better performance for self hosting though.
