Amy good alternative to jellyfin/emby/plex? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- cycloprolene · 2023-12-08 22:06 Each one of those has deal breaker for me. Emby doesnt show thumbnails for tv shows folders and add folders of non media things. Jellyfin enforce video transcoding and disabling it cause it stream no audio? Wat! Anyway are there others worth trying ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Legitimate_Farm_3095 · 2023-12-08 22:18 search the sub for "media player" "media server" "plex alternative" etc ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Photex · 2023-12-08 22:30 why not use one of those and just use Kodi as a front end? sounds like you have a player problem not a server problem. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- computerjunkie7410 · 2023-12-08 22:40 Jellyfin doesn’t enforce transcoding…what? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Ebrithil95 · 2023-12-08 22:51 Jellyfin doesnt enforce anything as long as the player can play whatever codec your source file has ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Smittyuk · 2023-12-08 22:51 I had a few issues with Jellyfin not playing x265 videos so have gone down the route of running Jellyfin with Kodi as the player/app through the addons. The documentation on Jellyfin’s site is clear and easy to follow and things seem to be playing back more reliably so can recommend this as an option. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dazchad · 2023-12-08 23:16 OP most likely has a device that doesn’t support the audio encoding, like DTS. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-12-09 04:13 > Wat! Wat indeed... smh ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Mintfresh22 · 2023-12-09 04:21 Sounds like you are too ignorant for self-hosting, sorry. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Serge-Rodnunsky · 2023-12-09 05:18 You’re asking for an alternative to the alternative to the alternative. My dude if Plex and jellyfin don’t do it for you, the things that are left are really gonna cook your oysters. If everything you try doesn’t work, you gonna wonder if maybe the common factor that’s making them not work is you? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UnaidedGinger · 2023-12-09 07:00 I’ll be the first to be downvoted to hell. Major privacy concerns with Plex given the recent this is what everyone in your household is watching. Emby commercial and not open source so if Plex did it why should I trust emby? Jellyfin is almost there. Definitely not well polished but my only complaint is lack of native app on Apple TV which is all I own. #firstworldproblems ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mrXmuzzz · 2023-12-09 08:06 Who's Amy? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Morgennebel · 2023-12-09 08:50 https://github.com/Dusk-Labs/dim might be your solution. Listed on awesome self hosted. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thesoak · 2023-12-09 13:18 You may be having an issue I experienced. Are your files 5.1 audio (surround)? If your play device doesn't support that, you will transcode everything. Either convert the files to 2 channels (called "mixdown") or play them on compatible hardware. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- EasyRhino75 · 2023-12-09 20:23 Apple TV people sometimes buy infuse ---------------------------------------------------------------------- GuiltyRecord0 · 2023-12-09 22:15 infuse is great!
