Upgrading from centOS 7, which linux is better with cPanel /WHM

I've dedicated centOS 7 (web) servers with cPanel/WHM. cPanel has
stopped support for centOS 7. I've to migrate to a new dedicated
server. I'm not sure which linux to choose next. Can anyone recommend
stable and future proof linux version with cPanel?

P.S. cpanel community forum is fucked up as they have removed older
forum posts and migrated to some shitty platform so can't expect any
answer there as it is dead forum now hence posting here to get help.

Tx. Just wanted to know this

In the past and with centOS cPanel was not compatible across major
releases, e.g. we couldn't upgrade from centOS 7 to 8. Can we upgrade
both Ubuntu and cPanel with major releases or it is going to be the
same pain as with centOS?

I think I found answer, it is not future proof so have to go through

I recently upgraded my WHM server from CentOS 7 to AlmaLinux 8. The
Elevate script worked perfectly: https://cpanel.github.io/elevate/

I initially wanted to migrate to Ubuntu, but didn't want to deal with
the hassle of migrating accounts and DNS records for dozens of
domains. :/

Thanks for reply that is what I was looking for. Good pointer on DNS.
cPanel is supported on AL8 till 2029 whereas it is supported on AL9
till 2032. I was wondering if we can directly upgrade to AL9? Has
anyone tried it?

Just found answer to my own question. It is not possible to upgrade to
AL9 from centOS 7. So it seems I have to get a new server and get AL9
and be done till 2032.

Does cpanel support backup from on Distro to the other? than you can
switch to any distro without to much of a hassle

Yes it does. As it turns out, and what I was trying to avoid, I've to
get a new server first, install cPanel and then move everything from
old to new server.

or download the backup, verify it on a test vm on your desktop,
reinstall the server and upload the backup
