Best replacement for TeamViewer? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Vorpel-Bunny · 2023-12-08 00:56 I think this has been asked before, but it's been a bit. What is the best replacement for TeamViewer for windows clients? I need to be able to remote into a hand full of windows clients. I don't need a lot of extras, just remote access. I've been using both RustDesk and MeshCentral, but for some reason, I always find myself going back to Anydesk with the misguided belief that it might be safer, given their dedicated team and paying customers etc. Don't get me wrong—I've been self-hosting for fifteen years, so I know I'm contradicting myself. Does anyone else share this sentiment? Not proud of it, but I thought this would be the best place to share my thoughts after all. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- zfa · 2023-12-08 05:43 I know this is a selfhosted sub but let's face it, like anything in life you will likely be a lot more comfortable basing your product selection based on your own threat modeling and allaying your own worries. If you think that AnyDesk will have better security than your own RD/MC setup then you're probably right to stick with them. Don't worry about it, but just keep on top of news and comments about the product just to err on the side of caution. I'm comfortable with my somewhat overkill MC setup but that doesn't mean it's best for you, its just best for me. Its a great remote assistance tool. I guess the question is, whats your intended use? Accessing machines on the same network. Accessing customers machines. Accessing your machines from outside? Anydesk works for most but relies on their server to connect machines. It can't be selfhosted afaik.
