HomeLab Newbie :) reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- cheeky_panduh · 2023-12-07 23:01 Hi guys, it’s the first time I’m getting my hands dirty on building a home server / lab. Here’s the list of my hardware: - HP EliteDesk 800 G5 (Intel i5 9500) - Crucial MX500 500GB (Boot Drive) - 2 x Crucial P3 NVMe SSD (2TB) - Crucial Pro RAM 64GB Kit (2x32GB) - Noctua NF-A8 PWM (Fan) I still got space for another two 3,5” HDD. Maybe two Seagate IronWolf Pro. So I want to run Proxmox bare metal on Crucial MX500 (500GB). Maybe I want to use TrueNAS Scale for NAS but I’d need additional storage I guess to use RAID, I want to host software development stack (like GitLab), but also media stuff like Plex/Jellyfin and other useful tools like NextCloud and PiHole. Ideally everything runs in Docker container. I’ve got technical background but honestly there’s so much to learn and it’s just the tip of the iceberg. I want to use best practices when setting up everything. Security is obviously important too. I’ve seen some videos on YouTube. Techno Tim has fascinating stuff but it’s just too much for me. Do you guys know any good tutorials / walkthroughs or got any recommendations in general? Thanks for your help.
