Tool to help organize my e-mail box (Gmail) reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- stephanvierkant · 2023-12-07 07:58 My mailbox was a big mess. Recently I tried to organize it and it took me a while. And then I ordered something for my coffee machine and this happened: [8 e-mails from Amazon\/DHL for 1 single order](https://preview.redd.i t/5pcasn8tvt4c1.png?width=954&format=png&auto=webp&s=7fd220aef6780207e 95ee15b7d51b345f0eccc2c) Is there a tool to help me organize this? For example: all these 8 mails are about an order at Amazon. They should be archived as soon as my order is delivered, but I don't want to archive them manually. And surveys should be archived automatically. I don't want to hosted an e-mail server, but I'm looking for a tool that logs into my email account to help me organize it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- FatalV0rt3x · 2023-12-07 08:22 Use the + method for your GMAIL account, allows you to filter and file emails depending on where they come from and shows you who's selling your data https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.partitionwizard.com/partitionmanager/ gmail-address-tricks.html%3famp ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jassalmithu · 2023-12-07 10:57 I use a domain and email hosted on hostkoala that's all forwarded to my gmail. All emails goto retailer or contact@mydomain.com, makes it really easy to soft through it all. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- FatalV0rt3x · 2023-12-07 11:21 This seems like overkill to me, as by the sounds of things, you're running multiple inboxes and forwarding them all to one Gmail acc. By forwarding the emails from yourself, you lose the searchability of "From" as all the emails received will be from yourself and also are likely to receive more spam emails too as it won't be blocking certain emails addresses or headers as these are changed upon forwarding. Why not use the account import option, that allows you to connect to your thirdparty account in Gmail VIA POP3? At least the emails will still be fully searchable, but you also then benefit from features like Googles Spam Filter. You can find these options at [https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/#setti ngs/accounts](http://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/#settings/accounts) This however is moving away from the OP's original question, as the OP is looking for ways to better organise GMAIL, what you're proposing is basically adding another layer to the mess that already is. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jassalmithu · 2023-12-07 11:25 No, my hosting has catch all feature, any email recieved from anyone@mydomain.extension is forward as it is to my gmail, no need to make a new inbox for every mail address although I have created a couple for some key ones. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- FatalV0rt3x · 2023-12-07 11:35 I get you. You're basically using a third-party "+" method through your hosting company by setting up a catch-all/wildcard forward. Pretty neat! Would still pose the same issue though as to spam though, as these headers will still change. Right? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jassalmithu · 2023-12-07 11:37 Currently I don't get any spam at all on my custom domain and using it for about 6 months now, I guess when the email has their company name in it, they take it more seriously to not spam. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dazchad · 2023-12-07 15:18 I haven't used myself, but shortwave has organization features. Not sure if it actually moves things around your gmail account, or only presents them on their app (i.e.: you need to always use the app, not just the organizing feature), but might be worth a check. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kmisterk · 2023-12-12 16:23 ## Post Removed Hey, stephanvierkant!
