Game Server Manager For Windows reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Deferkai 路 2023-12-06 01:50 Hey, so this is a free game server manager for windows. It was mainly designed for Ark: Survival Games - a lot of configuration options for these game specifically. I made a website dedicated on how to use the app [HaruHost introduction](https://haruhost.com/getting-started/introduction) It doesn't require any administrative privileges and it's not an instalable app. You just download and open it. The gameserver data is created relative you the exe app. **What does it do?** Has a Feature to **unlock firewall ports** specifically for your game server - you can either click trough the app or open generated .bat files and execute manually. Has a feature to view your IP address gateway and internal IP address and **guides you how to do port forwarding**. Makes **backups of configuration files** you edit trough the app. Easy Server, creation, instalation, update, start and stop **actions management**. RCON and Telenet Consoles supported for 7 Days and Ark Series. Servers are started trough a bat file, so technically you can edit the servers as you see fit. For example you can manually install mods for 7 Days and Valheim. But Ark: Survival Ascended and Ark: Survival Evolved have automatic mod management options. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- coff33ninja 路 2023-12-06 02:33 Grab my upvote now we just need Minecraft 馃帀馃帀馃帀 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Minituff 路 2023-12-06 02:49 Agreed! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- caffeineregime 路 2023-12-06 05:51 https://mcserversoft.com/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Deferkai 路 2023-12-06 06:02 That's a pretty good looking site ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Quarterpounder99 路 2023-12-06 06:27 To everyone: always verify what a .bat file is going to do before you run it. I鈥檓 sure OP is legit, but it鈥檚 a good rule to follow anyway ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Deferkai 路 2023-12-06 06:59 particularly those who prompt admin. FYI the .bat files for server startup are editable from file config, and can be viewed from server files by doing "view more -> view files". ---------------------------------------------------------------------- coff33ninja 路 2023-12-06 11:36 Making me conflicted with Pterodactyl on ubuntu and now this 馃槀 thanks for this will test it out 馃 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -__-_--__--_ 路 2023-12-06 12:23 It's not even a problem of legit or not. Maybe OP made a mistake and under some configuration it has the potential to remove some data, I.e all of appdata not appdata/your thing (real example) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- RiffyDivine2 路 2023-12-06 13:23 I would love something like this for all the game servers I got going up and down as we move between games. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ProbablePenguin 路 2023-12-06 13:25 The upside of pterodactyl is you can run a ton of different game servers, and manage multiple nodes from one webui. Also it doesn't rely on windows which is a huge plus. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ProbablePenguin 路 2023-12-06 13:26 Pterodactyl is very good for that ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Salt_MasterX 路 2023-12-06 14:55 Why is that a huge plus? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ProbablePenguin 路 2023-12-06 15:07 Much less overhead, debian minimal uses about 50MB of RAM itself, no automatic reboots for updates while people might be playing on a server, no license cost. The OP for windows is great for just setting up a server for friends and stuff though, pterodactyl is more if you want to run multiple dedicated servers. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- caffeineregime 路 2023-12-06 17:27 This is the right answer, if you鈥檙e on windows like a lot of people and just want a server hosted it鈥檚 good software. Linux will let you use more RAM as windows itself uses about 2gb. With 16gb RAM towards server I had no problem with 30+ players. However it鈥檚 all relevant to your PC specs, if you鈥檙e running this software at 8gb you lost 8 for your client. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Captain-Moroni 路 2023-12-06 18:10 I'd like something like this that works with the [itzg docker image](https://github.com/itzg/docker-minecraft-server). I usually have 2-3 servers up and running at any given time for me and my kids to play on. Different modpacks, haven't done anything fancy to manage them except portainer. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- RiffyDivine2 路 2023-12-06 20:38 I was looking at it today, looks cool but still seems limited on the games it default supports but maybe I over looked something. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Deferkai 路 2023-12-06 21:05 Man those adds. Saying that it doesn't rely on windows doesn't really seem like a huge plus. This post is speciafically for a desktop GUI for Windows, not Linux. I don't see Pterodactyl stating in the docs that it supports Windows. So I am not sure what you're doing here. FYI - HaruHost Desktop supports multiple game servers as well. The main benefit that I see is you don't need to install docker Desktop, and it's a small client that can be download and used instantly. The HaruHost way of implementation is made in such a way that porting it for Linux wouldn't be a big scracth. Also the base code of this is taken from my private Linux CLI implementation, which would be kind of similar to what the app you mentioned does. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Deferkai 路 2023-12-06 21:10 Join the Discord, we can make a list of suggested games and do a vote for what to support next. Also, you might have other ideas on how to make it better. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ProbablePenguin 路 2023-12-06 21:20 There's a full list of 'eggs' that they have pre-made: https://github.com/parkervcp/eggs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Deferkai 路 2023-12-06 21:23 Hey, I'm listening and the amount of upvotes implies that it's pretty desirable. We could make a vote for the next game on Discord. However currently I want to polish the app a bit more and add some features I have in mind. In the meanwhile maybe the link posted u/caffeineregime would be a viable solution. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DefNotJeffrey 路 2023-12-06 23:52 look into lodestone, its a new project which is really simple and easy to manage all your minecraft servers https://github.com/Lodestone-Team ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Deferkai 路 2023-12-07 02:27 It would be a good thing to point out what is related to the tool you're promoting and the OS as it's misleading. HaruHost has basically 0 CPU usage when in the background as well. However if we use analytics, the CPU usage becomes a bit higher because we look up server usage stats each time. And that applies to every tool no exceptions. FYI: it's a planned feature not yet available. Now regarding the minimal use cases. Windows has overhead regarding ram usage, but cpu usage is pretty well optimized. In the end of the day you can run multiple dedicated servers with HaruHost on windows with almost negligible performance difference compared to some Linux distros. Don't forget he is probably comparing an optimized server image against a full desktop environment. And on Linux Desktop environments have pretty similar usages f.e. KDE. Regarding reboots, pretty sure you can turn it off with some Googling. Now I don't know about licensing on Windows, but I am pretty sure running multiple dedicated servers won't be an issue. However, in some cases Linux imho is far superior, like containerizng services and providing almost native performance. This just feels like a silly marketing attempt. So for anyone, look up the into things yourself. TLDR: the performance difference besides min-maxing is pretty negligble and windows is fully capable of running multiple dedicated servers.
