Slow Network After Installing Multiple Containers reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- gc28 · 2023-12-05 23:01 Pretty new to docker/Linux. **What was changed** I have been playing around with a few software packages on my DS918+. New Container additions: \*Arrs- Deluge- Overseerr (This was slow so may run on a separate device) - CloudFlair Tunnels Containers in place long term: Pi-Hole,Unifi (Wifi Controller), HomeAssistant, Tautulli **What happened** Since doing this I’ve noticed a slowdown across the network, web browsing & Plex buffering (remote & local) I've now reverted and turned off the new containers and things look to have improved. I have been running Pihole for DNS for about a year with no issues. **Why is this happening?** [DS918+ Specs](https://imgur.com/JIyqtWl) CPU/RAM usage has been pretty low maxed out at [40%](https://imgur.com/LO728Wh) with 3 Plex transcodes ongoing. I'm wondering what was to blame here: The CloudFlair tunnels? Or just the fact that the synology is running on SATA HDD's and it just can't take all that disk activity? **Solution?** Perhaps the solution here is to get a NUC to move Plex out to? A Raspberry Pi to run docker/containers or just an SSD Cahce for docker? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- eroc1990 · 2023-12-05 23:33 Is Deluge actively downloading? If so, how much of your bandwidth is it taking up? You should be able to limit how much bandwidth it uses to free up your bandwidth. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- gc28 · 2023-12-05 23:44 Nice shout, unfortunately, Deluge was idle when these issues arose. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-12-05 23:56 This is not a techsupport subreddit. If you have issues with your Synology hardware the first place to ask would be /r/Synology. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- eroc1990 · 2023-12-06 01:08 Stats on Pi-Hole? What are the average times for your DNS responses? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- morbidpete84 · 2023-12-06 01:52 I would think you are beating the crap out of the array with all that disk activity all at once. Just data spinning rust trying to run a bunch of containers in what is pretty much a raid 5 (if using SHA) That’s my first guess. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- gc28 · 2023-12-06 04:10 Thank you I’ll boot everything up tomorrow then monitor the disk usage and see what I get. Happy to shift out the docker install to a Raspberry Pi should they I see issues again. I’ll also l limit each containers RAM just to see if that helps with performance. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lilolalu · 2023-12-06 08:51 Install Netdata and get some metric about your NIC's bandwidth usage. Or, as a starter, install "iftop" ---------------------------------------------------------------------- gc28 · 2023-12-06 12:26 Thank you I installed netdata last night so hopefully it helps pinpoint any issues 🙂 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- liveyourdreamsmax · 2023-12-06 12:35 Pi hole resolving dns slowly? Doesn’t sound like a hdd/data bottleneck if you’re hitting slowness on all network devices. Just initial slowness or download speeds are slow the whole time? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- devilsproud666 · 2023-12-06 12:41 Typical German ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-12-06 13:42 Awww :( ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kmisterk · 2023-12-06 17:24 ## Post Removed Hey, gc28!
