How to make a caching server at home? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- katana1096 · 2023-12-05 08:16 Hello. I would like to make a caching server at home that it can cache anything that is viewed specially from Instagram, reddit, or/and X (previously Twitter). I am asking if something like this is possible and available. Please advise me and thank you. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- geek_at · 2023-12-05 08:46 you will need a proxy like squid that's intercepting all your traffic, decrypts SSL (which will be problematic with phones and smart TVs but should work on PCs) and enable the caching function. Usually I'd say it's not worth the hassle unless you want to learn how to use it. Then I'd say make a VLAN that does this or just enable it in your machine ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-12-05 09:04 Look up guides for Squid proxy as example. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- edekeijzer · 2023-12-05 13:38 Mostly useless for caching these days, unless you implement SSL stripping, which will break the site entirely when certificate pinning has been implemented. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-12-05 14:15 True, but i didnt say any of this makes sense and its for OP to find out and learn about it :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- autogyrophilia · 2023-12-06 00:17 First, build a time machine that takes you 20 years to the past.
