Using access point for homelab firewall and VPN connection? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- plzwakeupmrwest · 2023-12-04 17:07 I have my first homelab running, it currently just has Jellyfin and some *arr containers on Proxmox. The current goal is to have Jellyfin accessible for streaming locally via wireless connection, then remotely via VPN. I live in an apartment with its own private access point that’s through a different ISP than the rest of the tenants, which I can connect to via Ethernet if I need an internet connection. The only time my homelab needs internet at the moment is to download content, so I have a qBittorrent container with OpenVPN connected to Mullvad. Otherwise, it’s unplugged from my switch that connects to the access point. I know this is a terrible solution, as I have no idea what firewall (if any) the access point is running, and I probably can’t change it. Even if I could, I won’t since my roommate also uses it and they just want working internet. Since I’d like a firewall that works for my whole homelab, a way for all my homelab traffic to go though a VPN, and a way to access this network wirelessly, an access point that can do all three sounds ideal. Does anyone have any recommendations? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-12-04 17:58 /r/HomeNetworking ---------------------------------------------------------------------- plzwakeupmrwest · 2023-12-04 18:07 Will remove and post there, thanks
