Open source system for knowledge management. reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- long_thinking · 2023-12-03 14:21 Please tell me an open source system for knowledge management. Similar to Confluence. Please do not offer Wiki or similar engines. This is an outdated and inconvenient system for the user (my personal opinion), perhaps as a dictionary of terms - this is a very good solution, but not as a corporate knowledge system for users with low experience. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ovizii · 2023-12-03 15:53 Have you looked at [https://www.getoutline.com/](https://www.getoutline.com/) ? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Datsun67 · 2023-12-03 16:23 We're using bookstack, it's up to you / the knowledge owners to come up with a good organizational structure to make it intuitive and useful to people not already familiar with the information you add to the platform. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- flyingfabi · 2023-12-03 16:25 +1 for Bookstack ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Psychological_Try559 · 2023-12-03 16:37 I have never heard anyone WANT to use confluence (maybe I use it too much?). Sass aside, what features does confluence have that a wiki does not? I'm not sure anything comes to mind but if you can point them out then maybe that would help narrow down exactly what you're looking for. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- bhthllj · 2023-12-03 17:16 [Wiki.js](https://js.wiki/) is always worth a look, too. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- vivekkhera · 2023-12-03 17:52 My current preference is a thin layer on top of google docs. My two favorite are spaceli.io and kbee.app ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DIBSSB · 2023-12-03 17:57 Codex ---------------------------------------------------------------------- austozi · 2023-12-03 18:01 > for users with low experience. [BookStack¡(https://www.bookstackapp.com/) is very newbie-friendly because it offers a WYSIWYG HTML editor. Your users don't need to learn any new funky syntax just to use it. If they can use regular webmail, they can already use the editor. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- YankeeLimaVictor · 2023-12-03 19:49 I like documize ---------------------------------------------------------------------- adamshand · 2023-12-03 22:08 Damn, I needed those 6 months ago! All I found was YouNeedAWiki which was okay but meh. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- linuxmel · 2023-12-03 22:38 I just installed it via docker, it's kind of hard to edit. Meaning I wish you could just click on a page and start editing and just adding content, instead of having to switch to the info tab. Am I doing something wrong? I guess I just have to get used to it. Thanks for sharing this bookstack idea! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- RedBoll · 2023-12-03 23:25 Bookstack user here also. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- RedBoll · 2023-12-03 23:48 There are some shortcuts, did you try those?: https://www.bookstackapp.com/blog/bookstack-release-v22-11/#user- interface-shortcuts https://www.bookstackapp.com/docs/user/wysiwyg-editor/#editor- shortcuts ---------------------------------------------------------------------- austozi · 2023-12-04 00:29 For me on the desktop, I open a page and then click "Edit" on the left to activate editing mode. If you see the Info tab, you're probably using a small screen (e.g., on a mobile device). It's usually more straightforward than that. > I wish you could just click on a page and start editing and just adding content BookStack (indeed, any web-based document) is designed for reading first, editing second. What you described is more fit for a word processor, which BookStack is not. I can imagine that it would cause accidental edits/unintended changes, which would be very bad for a knowledge base/wiki. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- linuxmel · 2023-12-04 01:52 Thanks, that was the problem, I was on mobile, I'll give it a try on my Mac Air. Thanks for your insight! Much appreciated. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- wit2008 · 2023-12-04 02:43 /r/logseq ---------------------------------------------------------------------- blizznwins · 2023-12-04 11:38 Can recommend this as well. I am using confluence at work and outline for private projects. The transition is fairly easy.
