Really, all it is is a bunch of people doing their own thing, with some guiding oversight from a smaller team to try to keep *some* semblance of direction to the project. That's not to say there might not be criticisms/feedback or a desire to NOT include a change or something, but this tends to be rarer that you might think especially outside of the core server (where there's a dedicated team who's really focused on getting the codebase up to snuff and will be a bit merciless in review feedback). Now, onto those specific comments! > But, I'm a professional React developer, and I feel like Vue.js kind of limits a lot of potential developers for (in my opinion) extremely limited benefit, if any. So there tends to be an idea that Vue is the "new Jellyfin UI". This is not *necessarily* the case. The Vue project was started by a few people following the "do-ocracy" principle (they wanted to use Vue, so they made a WebUI with it), and while it is moving along, at this time we don't plans to replace the existing UI with it. Ideally, when it's ready, it will be a choice between the two. Our existing WebUI could use some love too, it's not Vue, but it's not React IIRC either. It's a lot of legacy code that Bill has been cleaning up slowly, so that might be a good place to start. >I also think that quite a few of JellyFin's problems are UX related, but without a UX team speccing out what it should look like, it's difficult for me to develop something that I'm not sure will even be well received. This is actually something our call for developers in October has helped a lot with. We now have a couple UX designers working with us, so this is something that's slowly improving, but I'm not sure how soon the benefits will be realized. It's important to remember that one person's "UX issue" is another person's "UX feature" so it's a hard problem. For all of this, I'd recommend jumping into our Matrix chat channels (bridged to our Discord and IRC too if you prefer those) and start chatting with the contributors. It can help you get a feel for where things are at, propose suggestions and get feedback in real-time, etc. You can find the main channels on our contact page (https://jellyfin.org/contact) and branch out from there! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BCIT_Richard · 2023-12-04 20:01 Thanks for the suggestion, I've been using Debian ever since I decided I didn't like Ubuntu 5+ years ago. Every organisation is. Fucking duh, there's really no other way to interpret my comment. It is a matter of sociological disagreement of whether something can be truly apolitical that is yet to be settled. I would say, however, that there is such a thing as 'being needlessly political'. And the Internet Archive went needlessly political when, during the coof hysteria, they felt it their civic duty to first hide (which they backpedaled on) and then to 'add context' (read: regurgitate State propaganda) on certain web pages. They also went political when they decided to shit on oil companies and oil companies alone when they were 'fighting for net neutrality' or whatever fig-leaf pretense they claimed for being socialists. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mtx0 · 2023-12-08 14:18 Planka looks great.
