All in one device? 1 click install? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- infinished · 2023-12-03 05:39 Hi, I'm completely new to this self hosting stuff, a s just curious if there is a small computer, a nuc or something for under 400 dollars that I can just buy that has nextcloud and home assistant and maybe some AI assistant out of the box? Or the quickest way to install it all in like one command? Thanks for reading this. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- brownmyonion · 2023-12-03 06:31 Not sure if there is a device that comes with self-hosted apps preinstalled. I think the easiest way is to but a mini PC with N100 processor ($150-$200), install ubuntu and then use Cosmos or Casa OS. These OS will have app store like interface which make installing apps much easier. There is a new machine coming out called Zima Cube, but is in pre-order stage. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- applemantotherescue · 2023-12-03 06:42 There's not really unfortunately, and it doesn't really matter because when stuff breaks (which it will) if you don't know how to fix it you will just have to reinstall it. Home Assistant has their own product though ---------------------------------------------------------------------- zachfive87 · 2023-12-03 08:27 Self hosting is the journey in which the end is always slightly out of reach. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lilolalu · 2023-12-03 08:44 You can buy a nextcloud hardware appliance https://nextcloud.com/devices/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AllTheModzAreCancer · 2023-12-03 09:33 https://i.imgur.com/yqYTprt.gif ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-12-03 10:19 Umbrel Home exists but i would not recommend that at all, even when ignoring the insane price. Buy yourself some basic hardware, like a NUC (doesnt need to be made by Intel) and then install basic Debian or Ubuntu on it. Add for example /r/CosmosServer to it, done. Also look at CasaOS as alternative. Great cheap hardware for a selfhosting start can also be user SFF MiniPCs or ThinClients from brands like Lenovo, Dell, HP etc, marketplaces and ebay and such are full of them and they cost around the same as a new Raspi with accessories would but still much more powerful. i5 6500T with 16GB is a great start just as example. But this sub is about the software side of selthosting, not hardware. Ask subs like /r/HomeServer /r/Homelab etc. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- steveiliop56 · 2023-12-03 11:53 I would recommend getting a cheap Intel NUC and installing Ubuntu and runtipi ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Reasonable-Ladder300 · 2023-12-03 12:18 I second this, if you want ease of use use something like Casa OS and install desired apps from there. I think that’s as easy as it gets. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Atypical9806 · 2023-12-03 12:47 Thinking that this is a good solution is a bad idea. If you wish to self-host, don't expect everything single thing to be spoonfed to you. You need to constantly make sure your server is secure and up to date. Buy a device, whether it be an old computer or something like a NUC, that's the first step. Then learn how to use Linux, Windows really isn't good for server. Then follow the install guides listed on Nextclouds website. And I don't think you understand how AI works. AI requires HUGE power, you can't just expect a full fledged smart AI to run on your standard joe computer. By huge power, I mean if you want to selfhost ChatGPT, it will cost you about 5 Nvidia A100 graphics (they cost about 16,667 usd each). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ADB-UK · 2023-12-03 13:24 You could have a look at CASA OS [https://casaos.io](https://casaos.io) This gives you a front end for management of the server (inc Docker set up for common apps) based off a single install command. It runs on NUCs, Pi boards but sits very well with the [https://www.zimaboard.com](https://www.zimaboard.com) range who have a new 'box' coming soon. I personally find the current Zima boards untidy with external bits hanging off but you may not be as bothered as I am :-)
