Vaultwarden Setup reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- reddnitt · 2023-12-02 12:44 Looking to migrate my Vaultwarden install away from CasaOS to my Proxmox setup, just wondering if that's the best way to go about things? I've had installed in a docker container inside CasaOS a while ago, but find it doesn't pull the latest image, and generally speaking cumbersome to use. Same goes with other dashboards like Umbrel, I'd rather have them all in one place that is easy to manage with more control, and either use Proxmox or a dashboard like Homerr. I'm using Cloudflare Tunnel to expose remotely, but might just make it all local in the near future. How do you currently have Vaultwarden/Bitwarden installed? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ChucknChafveve · 2023-12-02 12:57 I have vault warden installed as a docker. I'd recommend installing it as a new docker instance with a brand new admin code and everything. You can have both instances running simultaneously, and assuming it's just your account, or a handful of accounts, login to them normally and export the data to a file. Login to your new accounts, import the file. Delete the file once you've confirmed the data is appearing properly ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Zedris · 2023-12-02 12:58 I could never figure out how to get wireguard with https for vaultwarden. So i went with cloudflare at the start. Then i moved to tailscale with their https which i have kept. I have wireguard as my main tailscale as a backup and vaulwarden using the tailscale https address. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- SamSausages · 2023-12-02 13:30 Docker is probably the easiest. But I would follow the official docker documentation and use something like Debian, that is a more common platform and probably better tested and supported. Thats my config, with a tailscale vpn when I’m outside my network. (And that is managed on pfsense and my firewall) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 510Threaded · 2023-12-02 13:56 In a docker container that is only accessible on my LAN ---------------------------------------------------------------------- reddnitt · 2023-12-02 15:46 This seems the way. But, as I'm using Proxmox, I'll just create a lvm container with vaultwarden and restore data. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- reddnitt · 2023-12-02 15:50 I tried Tailscale at first but didn't like the implementation of setting up vpn for each device, therefore opted for Cloudflare Tunnels. I found it to be seemless to get everything up and running. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Malossi167 · 2023-12-02 18:04 I strongly recommend running a full VM as a docker host on Proxmox. You can run most dockers in a LXC but when you aim for a general docker host a full VM is a safer bet. And spinning up an LXC for every docker is needlessly painful. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- moanos · 2023-12-02 20:39 If you want a setup with ansible+docker I'd recommend the [MASH- Playbook](https://github.com/mother-of-all-self-hosting/mash- playbook/). It can set up Vaultwarden and many other services and wire them all to a database and reverse proxy. Also Backups are integrated which is one headache less ---------------------------------------------------------------------- esturniolo · 2023-12-02 22:43 This. Use an Alpine image and you will be very happy. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Malossi167 · 2023-12-02 22:54 I was using Ubuntu server as my default but I switched to Debian. But I think we can all agree to disagree what distro to use. One of the bad and great things about Linux. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- esturniolo · 2023-12-02 22:58 Of course! I mentioned Alpine because if the OP will host only Vaultwarden, can assign very little resources and this district was created for this scenario. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- reddnitt · 2023-12-03 19:53 There's an Alpine option for a LXC method which uses minimal resources without docker. I'd rather not have a full VM just for vaultwarden, I'm guessing this should be fine?
