Can you have several container without subdomains ? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- EpicMotor · 2023-12-02 03:59 Hello, Thanks to this sub, I could set up my own server at home with a dozen docker container, they run well and I bought a domain name for access to a few of them, especially the photos so mom can see I eat well. Only issue is, I could not access them without using subdomains, e.g : **photos.epicmotor.com** to access my piwigo, or **wiki.epicmotor.com** for my personal bookstack... Is it possible to have juste **www.epicmotor.com/photos** and/or **www.epicmotor.com/wiki** ? So far, in nginx-manager, putting those URL fail. I am sorry if this was mentionned already on the sub, could not find... Thanks in advance ---------------------------------------------------------------------- multidollar · 2023-12-02 04:23 Can you show your NginX config? This should technically be possible, although I'm wondering why the subdomains is an issue? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- acid_etched · 2023-12-02 04:31 Yes, you have to set up nginx to use subfolders instead of subdomains though. The linuxserver.io swag container has example config files you can look at, but I never used the subfolder versions so I can't help much beyond that. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- EpicMotor · 2023-12-02 04:38 Sure, how do I find it ? I see only a config.json with some keys in the docker config folder. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- EpicMotor · 2023-12-02 04:39 Thanks I will check :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dazchad · 2023-12-02 04:52 Another point is that the service needs to support being installed in a subpath instead of a domain/subdomain. You will only know by checking their documentation. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dub_starr · 2023-12-02 05:56 you can absolutely set it up both ways. i prefer sub path, but like some other commenter noted, not all apps play nicely with the sub path, and need a subdomain. it used to be more annoying, imo, to do subdomain, due to the certificate needs, but with lets encrypt and certbot etc.. either should be just as easy to use. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- vermyx · 2023-12-02 08:25 Subdomains are generally recommended because if an app doesn't natively have a configuration for the root folder of the app, the reverse proxy/server has to rewrite the page to modify the urls which can fail spectacularly depending on how the app is written. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lilolalu · 2023-12-02 08:34 It's possible but much more complicated since you need to figure out URL rewrites for each service to map them to example.com/servicename/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Reasonable-Ladder300 · 2023-12-02 10:26 I recommend doing this with Traefik, it works great with docker and it’s just a matter of adding some labels to your container. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- sralloza · 2023-12-02 19:12 It can even manage SSL certificates automatically.
