Would like to host Koillection. What's the best way ? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Aligatueur · 2023-11-30 20:40 Heyah ! So a few days ago, I was looking for a tool to host a huge data of Pokémon (yeah it's weird but hey) and seems Koillection could do the job. However the self hosting part is quite an issue i've to admit. So I wanted to get some help on how / where to setup. Because the irony of it is that I own an unraid server. I could host on it right ? Well, I'm quite in a situation where i can access my server once in a while and i'd like to have something available at any given time. So I wanted to find a free solution if possible for that. Free because I need to be sure of what I'll use in the long term. As a note, I've a Oracle Cloud account (free) that i've been looking for an use and a Raspberry Pi that could be used here but i'd like to be a last ressort solution. Thanks o/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lytn1ng · 2023-11-30 23:16 What's your definition of "best"? If you want to expose your collection to the public internet - The Oracle cloud might be the better choice. Otherwise, hosting it within your network should be straightforward. In either case, Docker should get you going quickly. A reverse proxy to go with this might not be a bad idea either (and pretty much a requirement if you want to allow Public access). But entering the pokemon data...I don't envy you. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Aligatueur · 2023-12-01 07:35 So what I mean by best is quite... The opposite of these sadly haha : * Being private * Being available outside of my network since I move a lot and my server didn't run for like the past 5 months and I need my data all the time. I think with unraid and docker i should be okay to set it up, but i'm hitting the 2nd issue. And for the data, yeah it's already in 10 spreadsheets so it'll not the worst to achieve, but like I need a viable solution now T-T Thanks o/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- No-Command9510 · 2023-12-01 13:08 so when you want to host something which is accessible from the internet, best way would be deploying a wireguard server for vpn access.. if it should be available to a broader group of people , deploy an nginx reverse-proxy with openappsec as WAF , authelia for authenticated forwarding and / or oauth (if your solution supports it) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Aligatueur · 2023-12-01 21:54 Haha sadly here i'm hitting a wall in things I understand sadly. I just wanted something doable for my setup because I really need a tool for keeping track of everything. But yeah I'm far to have the knowledge to make everything easy like that Thanks ---------------------------------------------------------------------- No-Command9510 · 2023-12-01 21:59 what router do you have at home? let's start there .. maybe it already includes a functionality like vpn .. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Aligatueur · 2023-12-01 22:10 Well that's my main issue as said, I pretty much don't have a home atm. I've been moving a lot for my company which implies to be anywhere except home haha. I'd have used my unraid, a docker and done I guess. I was looking for a solution to have it hosted like the koillection's demo but unlimited pretty much
