Using Cloudflare tunnels for exposing services reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- v3d · 2023-11-30 10:35 Has anyone done it? Cloudflare says it's for "testing purposes" but I'm sure that self hosted services with a couple of users wouldn't raise any flags? I've been running a HTTP server for a month with no problems. DAE have any experience. Practically it's like reverse proxying but without having to pay for a VPS - perfect for selfhosting. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Couch941 · 2023-11-30 10:42 So you have a server at home that is HTTP and you use Cloudflare tunnel to access it from the outside? Or am I missunderstanding ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Legitimate_Farm_3095 · 2023-11-30 11:56 > Has anyone done it? yes, many of us do ---------------------------------------------------------------------- limskey · 2023-11-30 12:09 All the time. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- v3d · 2023-11-30 12:24 Yup, that's exactly it. I was just wondering if Cloudflare starts complaining because running services from home through their tunnel isn't exactly "testing". ---------------------------------------------------------------------- certuna · 2023-11-30 12:32 You can use Cloudflare without the tunnel too, then it’s just a reverse proxy. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- YanvegHD · 2023-11-30 12:51 Yes but WATCH OUT I did this to expose my Seafile server and if you use Cloudflare tunnel you won't be able to upload files >100mb with the free plan. First I thought it was a configuration issue on my side but after some research I just find out that there's a size limit for requests to Cloudflare. Source : https://developers.cloudflare.com/workers/platform/limits/#request- limits ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Wf1996 · 2023-11-30 13:44 Only thing about cloudflare tunnels that has led me away from it, is the unencrypted mitm part. I know they need to do it for their thread algorithms. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Simplixt · 2023-11-30 13:51 Wow, never heard of it, that's amazing news! Just kidding, there is at least one post about CloudFlare here every day. Secure and convenient, but with some downsides concerning privacy because of Man-in-the-Middle. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Shoddy_Hunter2609 · 2023-11-30 17:02 tunnels work great for things like secure ssh (securesecure shell hehe) access, bt they are suboptimal for streaming and large files ---------------------------------------------------------------------- sarkyscouser · 2023-11-30 17:10 Yes, I expose Home Assistant this way ---------------------------------------------------------------------- canardlaker · 2023-11-30 18:08 This is the way ---------------------------------------------------------------------- v3d · 2023-11-30 18:23 good to know, thanks! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- v3d · 2023-11-30 18:24 could you elaborate a bit more, give a link? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ChurchOfSatin · 2023-12-01 00:52 You can’t stream video through it though. Isn’t it against their TOS?
