Oracle free tier - down time reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- savoyad · 2023-11-29 17:11 I have actually had a positive experience (!) with hosting some services on oracle free tier, very reliable over 2yrs now. But one of my three instances occasionally has some down time recently - including yesterday (no services on that server responding, couldn't login via terminal). Is there a way to confirm the down time - at the time and/or after the fact - or look at service levels? I want to check (seeing it's 1/3 instances, always same instance) whether it really is downtime, or something unstable I did... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- gioco_chess_al_cess · 2023-11-29 19:31 If it's an oracle problem you should see it somewhere on their panel that there are issues in your AD, if all the instances are on the same region and same AD, the fact that only one has issues is weird. I would monitor the instance in detail. If you have the Oracle daemons running you might want to look at the metrics that they collect in the computing panel. If you instead got rid of any monitoring from Oracle you can easily spin Prometheus+node exporter+grafana to record and display key computing metrics prior (or maybe even during) these down times. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- savoyad · 2023-12-04 14:57 Thanks. I went through the dashboard and regular outages show up in the metrics for the instance. Each one is preceded by memory spike to 100%. I've stopped the container I suspect might do that to see if it's a fix.
